Raw: A final build to SummerSlam
By DALE PLUMMER -- SLAM! Wrestling

The biggest party of the summer is fast approaching, but half of Sunday's title match may not be in the building tonight, according to WWE.com. And will Hulk Hogan be at SummerSlam, or even at RAW tonight at the University of Virginia?

Edge and Lita kick off the show with a recap of their trip to West Newberry, Massachusetts; and yes that is the hometown of John Cena. Edge takes us on a tour of Cena's parents' home. The champ tells the senior Cena that he will win at SummerSlam, and then slaps Cena's father before they leave. John Cena has flown home to take care of his father, or so we are told.

Match # 1 -- Lita vs. Mickie James -- Women's Title Match

(And the face in this match is who? I guess it's Mickie since she is from Richmond, Virginia.)

Lita pulls Mickie off the tope rope by her hair, and then drives a knee into her back. Mickie pinches her way to her feet, but Lita takes her down with a side Russian leg sweep. Mickie follows a hurricanrana with a clothesline. Mickie blocks DDT by grabbing the ropes. Edge then pulls Mickie off Lita to save a pin. Lita escapes a DDT, as Edge jumps on the apron. With the ref distracted, Lita clocks Mickie with the title belt. Lita makes the pin, and gets the three count.

Winner by pinfall...and new Women's Champion: Lita

It's Foley time. Mick congratulates Lita on her win, and then says he is upset with himself. Mick is angry that Flair was able to goad him into a match. Foley says he will utterly destroy Flair on Sunday, and Foley won't be the one who bleeds to death. First, though, Foley will compete on ECW is a way that he never has.

Match #2 -- Umaga w/ Armando Alejandro Estrada vs. Kid jobber

(I say Kid jobber, because I think Umaga's opponent is still in high school. Will someone check the child labor laws in Virginia, or at least call Social Services? If this isn't child endangerment, I don't know what is. If you want a recap, check the SLAM! Archives for Umaga vs. jobber. All the matches are the same. Although the high toss into the Samoan Drop is pretty impressive.)

Winner by pinfall: Umaga

Match #3 -- Johnny Nitro w/ Melina vs. Ric Flair

If you said Foley was going to run in, give yourself a pat on the back. With Nitro in trouble, Foley jumps in. Melina nails the Nature Boy with a low blow. Outside the ring, Foley tries to crush Flair with the ring steps.

Winner via DQ: Ric Flair

It's time for more Diva Search stuff. Melina is eliminated, and then the remaining three have a water fight with the WWE Divas. (I hate the Miz, with a passion.)

DX hits the ring. HBK says that they do what they want, when they want. Triple H is cut off by the McMahons. Vince gloats about the resources he has to throw at DX, and Sunday at SummerSlam, DX will be finished.

(This seems like a perfect time to expand DX. Hmmmm...)

Match #4 -- The Spirit Squad (Kenny and Mikey) vs. Hacksaw Jim Duggan and Eugene

This is such a throwaway match. The Highlanders come down to even the odds. Robby and Rory hit Mikey with the Scot Drop with the ref distracted. Eugene crawls over and gets an arm over to cover Mikey for the win.

Winner via pinfall: Hacksaw Jim Duggan and Eugene

Armando Alejandro Estrada offers the services of Umaga to the McMahons at SummerSlam.

Trish and Carlito share a private moment backstage before his match. That's cool.

Match #5 -- Edge vs. Carlito -- Non-Title Match

Carlito starts out like a house on fire, punching away at the champ, and then drilling Edge with a suplex. Edge regains his composure, but Carlito nails him with a clothesline. Carlito slams Edge to mat, and follows with a leg drop. The champ fights back, but Carlito catches himself on the apron, after a back body drop. The southpaw from San Juan slams Edge's face into the turnbuckle, and then nails a springboard corkscrew splash. After the break, Edge has the upper hand. Carlito fights out of a waist lock, but Lita grabs him as he tries to shoot off the ropes. Trish takes out Lita, and Carlito knocks down the champ with a clothesline. He follows with a springboard back elbow. A hurricanrana gets Carlito a two count. Carlito leaps a spear, but Edge smashes him face first into the turnbuckle. Edge drills the Spear, but John Cena hits the ring. He beats on Edge, who slips from the ring into the crowd.

Winner via DQ: Edge

Randy Orton calls out Hogan from the ring. Real American hits, but it's not the real Hogan. Orton runs him down until the real Hogan hits the stage. The Hulkster no sells Orton's attacks, and punches away at the Legend Killer. A big boot sends Orton from the ring, and Hogan beats on the imposter. Orton heads back up the ramp with his tail between his legs. Hogan says the Legend of Hulkamania can't be killed.
