WWE talent search coming to Ottawa
By TIM BAINES - Ottawa Sun

You don't have to look back too far to find a Canadian who's made a huge impact in the wrestling industry.

Edge, Christian Cage, Chris Benoit, Chris Jericho, Bret Hart ... there's a big lineup.

WWE is hoping to unearth more Canadian superstars when it holds a tryout camp Sept. 19 from 3-5 p.m. at Ottawa's Scotiabank Place, with a Smackdown! live event following the tryout.

And if you get a thrill out of getting physical ... if you've got the gift of gab ... and if you think a career of performing in front of millions of fans is for you ... well, this is your chance.

You don't have to be from Ottawa. It's likely performers will come from all over the country ... and outside.

If you're interested, check out https://secure.wwe.com/forms/tryout/ and hope that you're The Next Big Thing.

- Spike TV has a 90-day holding deal with Bill Goldberg, leading to speculation he could wind up with TNA soon.

- Former WWE legend (and stooge) Pat Patterson had a four-hour heart surgery last Sunday to remove a cyst from his main artery.

- The Aug. 20 Summer Slam is shaping up so far as: Edge vs. John Cena; King Booker vs. Batista; D-Generation X vs. Vince and Shane McMahon; Ric Flair vs. Mick Foley (I Quit match); and Rey Mysterio vs. Chavo Guerrero.

- It looks like Cena vs. Edge will headline the Sept. 17 Unforgiven pay-per-view in Toronto.

- Tickets for the Sept. 19 Smackdown! live event in Ottawa go on sale on Aug. 19.

- UWA has another very solid card lined up for the SuperEx in Ottawa. The Aug. 24 show will feature a main event of Abyss vs. Rhino in a Monster's Ball match. Other matches include: Mr. Class A1 vs. The Original Sinn; Sirelda vs. Tiana Ringer vs. Portia Perez; Virus vs. Phil Atlas; Jason Cage vs. Caster McFear vs. Colin Oliver Carnage III; and Aftershock vs. Sudden Impact. The following night, Aug. 25, UWA will hold its Heat Wave show in Brockville.

- Hulk Hogan may have the mindbending pythons and he may pray a lot and he may take his vitamins ... but someday he'll realize he's not bigger than the business itself ... and he'll agree to once again let someone pin him. It would damaging to Orton's career if Hogan was allowed to once again use the input he has into the result and have his hand raised in victory. A wag of the finger and a leg drop just don't do it for me anymore.

- Not sure if I'll ever fully like Monday Night RAW's new 10 p.m. timeslot on its new Canadian home, The Score, but it beats the alternative ... waiting until midnight while TSN shows football games.
