Impact: Jarrett gets stung
By CHRIS SOKOL -- SLAM! Wrestling
One last Impact to go before Hard Justice. Christian Cage's heel turn looks more and more evident, but anything is possible in TNA. LAX is on a rise as of late, while Brother Runt's stock is looking grim as he prepares to face "The Monster" Abyss. One stop to go, so come on and check out this edition of Impact.
The show started with the traditional recap, Jim Cornette is gold in TNA.
Jeremy Borash and "Showtime" Eric Young were camped outside Jim Cornette's office, Young was shown in a little tent and was nervous about his impending meeting. Young is a comedic genius. Glad the opportunity is there for him to showcase what he can do.
Rhino came out and began cutting a promo on "The Alpha Male" Monty Brown and Samoa Joe. Brown interrupted and jawed a bit, before Joe came out, setting up the three way brawl. This should be a great match-up on Sunday.
A hype video about Sting and Jeff Jarrett played, further teasing their Hard Justice encounter. Another good match on the PPV.
Match One - Six Man Tag Team Match - Kevin Nash, Alex Shelley and "Hotshot" Johnny Devine vs. Chris Sabin, Jay Lethal and Sonjay Dutt
Throughout the match, Brother Runt was walking around the Impact Zone with a sign, asking for Abyss to come and get him. Sabin and Lethal hit some great double team moves, but Nash fired back, slamming Lethal to the mat with a viscous sidewalk slam. Devine came back in and it was all over from there, with Sabin hitting a Cradle Shock for the win. After the match, Jerry Lynn was shown looking at the ring from the entrance ramp.
Winners Via Pinfall - Chris Sabin, Jay Lethal and Sonjay Dutt
More Sting/Jeff Jarrett hype followed.
In the back, Borash and Young were still waiting for Cornette. Larry Zybysko cut in, but was interrupted by Cornette who called Young in to talk. Mark "Slick" Johnson ran in next and asked Zybysko, "Toupee or no toupee? That is the question." Johnson vs. Zybysko?
Match Two - "The Notorious 187" Homicide w/Hernandez and Konnan vs. "The Fallen Angel" Christopher Daniels
A great match, two phenomenal wrestlers. Tons of interference and outside antics by Hernandez and Konnan, really getting over that thug/gang like mentality that this group exhibits. Konnan provided a fatal distraction for Daniels, as Hernandez came in and hit the Border Toss behind the ref, allowing Homicide to make the cover and get the pinfall victory.
Winner Via Pinfall - "The Notorious 187" Homicide
After the match the beatdown continued until AJ Styles came and made the save with a steel chair. He ripped off his neck brace and showed that he is back to 100%. Great segment.
Match Three - "The Monster" Abyss vs. Shark Boy
SQUASH! SQUASH! SQUASH! Sharkie looked more like a minnow in this bout. All the while, Runt hung around on a ladder by the entrance ramp.
Winner Via Pinfall - "The Monster" Abyss
After the match, Mitchell grabbed a mic and yelled at Runt. They went to get him from atop one of the entrance tunnels, but instead he dove down and beat on Abyss, hitting an Acid Drop and swinging his chain. Great buildup.
Even more Jarrett/Sting buildup. Good stuff still.
Back from break and yet again, more Jarrett/Sting buildup.
In the back, Young, Borash and Cornette were shown. Young was giving Cornette all sorts of presents. Young was then put into a match against Devine on PPV, because Paparazzi Productions was giving Cornette trouble. Johnson came running in and said the main event was next. Young was left standing in Cornette's office. Another great segment.
Match Four - "Big Poppa Pump" Scott Steiner vs. Christian Cage
Cornette slid in to do commentary on this one. Steiner had things well at hand, but Cage found a way to come back. Cage was about to win with the Unprettier, but Jarrett came in. He locked in the Scorpion Deathlock on Christian. The lights went out and when they came back on, Jarrett was in the Scorpion Deathlock. Sting cleaned house as Cage handed him the belt.
Winner Via DQ - Christian Cage
A video package was shown, hyping the PPV as the road to Hard Justice takes it's final turn.
Chris Sokol is from Long Island, NY and was impressed by Brother Runts leap off the top of the Impact Zone. Nice jump.
