Bar may be raised too high in ring
By TIM BAINES - Ottawa Sun

I was flipping the channels a few nights ago and I landed on The Fight Network, one of my favourite destinations.

WRESTLING

In all of their flabby glory, it was Harley Race and Bulldog Bob Brown teamed up against Ted DiBiase and Paul Orndorff.

I was more than a bit surprised when DiBiase got the pinfall after backdropping Race. One, two, three. After a ''devastating'' finishing move of a backdrop.

A couple of nights later, I see Mickie James powerslammed off the top rope and she kicks out at two.

Geez, nowadays you've got to hit a guy with a chair, set him on fire and drop him on a bed of thumbtacks before you roll his carcass over and pin him.

I just wonder where we can go from here.

Finishing moves aren't finishing moves anymore.

No more abdominal stretches ... no more sleepers.

As much as I love wrestling, I just wonder whether we've raised the bar a bit too high.

- WWE is bringing back Jeff Hardy. It's expected ... and it makes sense ... that he'll team with his brother Matt again as The Hardy Boyz.

- Scott Steiner ripped into Canada on Impact, calling it ''Mexico North'' and a ''stinking cesspool.'' Okay Freakzilla, drag your Poppa Pumped up ass up here and we'll cesspool you up one side and down the other.

- So far, for next Sunday's TNA Hard Justice: Jeff Jarrett vs. Sting; Senshi vs. Petey Williams; AJ Styles and Christopher Daniels vs. LAX; Samoa Joe vs. Rhino vs. Monty Brown; Kevin Nash vs. Chris Sabin; America's Most Wanted vs. The James Gang vs. The Naturals vs. Frankie Kazarian and Matt Bentley; Abyss vs. Brother Runt; and Gail Kim vs. Sirelda.

- Global's ECW show will not start until 12:06 Friday night (actually Saturday morning if you want to get technical about it.

- The ''fake'' Hulk Hogan on Monday Night RAW was Richard Doo, while Larry Sweeney, who works for CHIKARA Pro, was the fake son, Nick Hogan.

- Universal Wrestling Alliance returns to the Ottawa area with a pair of big shows later this month. On Aug. 24 -- as part of Super EX, in the Civic Center Salons -- UWA will bring in stars like Rhino, The Original Sinn, Mr. Class A1 and others. The next night in Brockville, UWA will also host a show. Details are to be announced.
