Smackdown: The King rocks Mysterio's world
By ANDY McNAMARA - SLAM! Wrestling

Tonight in Detroit is a night of championships and treachery. There will be a royal coronation of King Booker as the new World champ, and a rematch for the title. Will Chavo Guerrero explain his reasoning behind costing his former friend the belt at the Bash? Toss in a U.S. title bout between long-time rivals William Regal and Finlay and we have once again another jam packed episode of Smackdown!

An opening montage recaps the surprising Chavo turn and Booker T world title win over Rey Mysterio at The Great American Bash. We also find out that Mysterio gets his rematch against the King tonight.

Match 1: Ken Kennedy vs. Batista

The two grapple to a stalemate early on, but soon Mr. Kennedy attacks Batista's left knee. Although The Animal is favouring his knee he is still able to hit some big blows and a backdrop. The two battle on the outside with Batista missing a clothesline on the ring post. At the count of nine Kennedy is able to roll back in the ring and Batista is counted out! Mr. Kennedy is 2-0 vs. Batista.

WINNER: Ken Kennedy

Match 2: Vito vs. Simon Dean

Vito, dress and all, is being hammered by Dean. Vito makes a brief comeback before Dean turns the momentum back with a knee to the gut. This is the most competitive match Simon Dean has been in for months. Despite that after an elevated DDT and an under the dress arm bar Vito forces Dean to tap out for the win.

WINNER: Vito

Match 3: Tatanka vs. Sylvain

Tatanka and Sylvain exchange blows before the Native American gains control after a big chop. After cheap shot the Frenchman yanks Tatanka off of the top rope and begins to work on his left arm. Sylvain delivers an awesome standing dropkick after Tatanka attempts an off the top rope chop. Sylvain hits a modified F5 after a failed tomahawk attack. Your winner is the Ambassador to Quebec, Sylvain.

WINNER: Sylvain

Match 4: Michelle McCool w/ Krystal vs. Jillian Hall w/ Ashley

Jillian continues to put on above average athletic displays. She nails a springboard back elbow and a monkey flip. With an assist from Krystal, Michelle is able to pin Hall for the three count.

WINNER: Michelle McCool

Chavo Guerrero is interviewed next in WWE studios. He says he doesn't owe Rey or anyone else an explanation.

The royal presentation of King Booker T's World Heavyweight championship belt is now. Booker and Sharmell are carted down to the ring complete with trumpeters and guards. King of the World Booker T spins around in the ring before taking a seat on his throne and addressing the masses. Rey Mysterio crashes the coronation out of nowhere, and begins to lay the smackdown on the King. The former champion has to be ripped off by security guards. Before the battle is broken up, Mysterio nails a 619.

William Regal and Finlay discuss backstage about how they've known each other for 20 years, and that they are going to kick one another's teeth out.

Match 5: U.S. Championship- Finlay (c) vs. William Regal

Finlay gives Regal a swift kick in the mouth to start things off, and this sure to be war is under way. The Irishman pounds away and begins to wear down Regal with a sleeper hold. Regal turns the tide with a sling shot into the steel post on the outside. Both men are delivering very stiff shots, and that's what makes their matches so good. The Englishman executes several suplexes and then begins to untie the upper turnbuckle. The leprechaun sneaks out from beneath the ring and low blows Regal with a shillelagh. This allows Finlay to grab the tights and roll up his opponent.

WINNER: Finlay

The Diva Search is up, and they are playing musical chairs. JT won.

Paul Heyman confronts GM Teddy Long about Teddy using his "jurisdiction" to make The Big Show fight in the Punjabi Prison Match at The Great American Bash. Heyman challenges Long to bring any Smackdown star extreme enough to face Big Show. The GM stuns Heyman by announcing that Batista will be at ECW on Tuesday.

Match 6: Matt Hardy vs. Sylvester Terkay w/ Elijah Birk

Elijah Birk introduces Sylvester Terkay, who is a monster of a man. Terkay was 71-1 as an amateur wrestler, only losing to Kurt Angle, and has also recently fought in MMA. Terkay is all over Hardy, who just a couple of weeks ago seemed he was on the verge of a push after a win over Ken Kennedy. Hardy lands some brief punches, before Terkay lands a nasty mule kick and spinning back fist. The dominated Hardy has to tap out after a hammerlock style submission.

WINNER: Sylvester Terkay

Match 7: World Heavyweight Championship- King Booker w/ Queen Sharmell vs. Rey Mysterio

Rey comes out brawling and is relentless in his attack on the King of the World. Whenever Booker attempts offense Mysterio continually counters. The former champ missed a cross body to the outside and is favouring his right knee. Booker now is able to work the leg and gains a near fall after a side kick to the jaw. Rey Rey bounces back with flying head scissors and hits the Three Amigos. Queen Sharmell distracts the referee and this allows Chavo to smack Mysterio off the apron. This gives King Booker the chance to deliver the Scissors Kick and flop on top of Rey to retain the world title.

WINNER: King Booker
