Smackdown: Rey drops the dime on the King
By ANDY McNAMARA - SLAM! Wrestling

With the breaking news of Mark Henry undergoing knee surgery there will be a new opponent for Batista announced tonight! The Great American Bash main event comes early as Rey Mysterio and King Booker can't wait until Sunday to get their hands on one another. Also, the grudge between U.S. champ Finlay and Bobby Lashley continues. Ready, set, Smackdown is next!

Teddy Long is out in the ring in Corpus Christi, Texas announcing that Mark Henry underwent knee surgery this past Tuesday. He will therefore be unable to face Batista at The Great American Bash. The GM is about to announce Batista as #1 contender by default when Ken Kennedy comes interrupts. He challenges the Animal for that #1 spot at the PPV, and Batista is quick to storm the ring to answer the request. Batista says he has six months of anger and hate built up and since he can't take it out on Henry, Kennedy will do fine. Kennedy refuses to shake the former champ's hand and the match is officially scheduled.

Match 1: Brian Kendrick w/ Paul London vs. Kid Kash w/ Jamie Noble

The Pit Bulls will face Kendrick and London for the tag team titles at The Great American Bash. Noble cheated to beat London last week, can the challengers upset the champs in single competition? The high flying of Kendrick and smash mouth of Kash make for a nice blend of styles in this matchup. Kash is working heavily on Kendrick's left knee during the first portion of the contest. Kendrick has gotten in zero offense, and Kash continues the assault with a vicious snap mare that springs Kendrick's bad knee off the middle rope. Kendrick finally gets a few shots in and moves out of the way while Kash runs into Noble who was on the apron. Amid some confusion the referee is holding back London while Noble is able to assist Kash in finishing off Kendrick with a brainbuster.

WINNER: Kid Kash

Teddy Long is asking Chavo Guerrero if he will come out of retirement. Chavo answers no, and then King Booker and Queen Sharmell demand respect from Teddy and the other wrestlers. Booker starts running down Mysterio, which Chavo takes exception to, and both men argue before Chavo storms off. Booker also challenges Mysterio to a match tonight -- why are they giving away the PPV main event for free?

After the commercials Long asks Mysterio if he will accept Booker's challenge tonight. Chavo tries to talk his friend out of it but Rey does agree to the match.

Match 2: Krystal & Michelle McCool vs. Ashley & Jillian Hall

Michelle and Jillian start things off, and Jillian delivers a neat looking cartwheel elbow. After some illegal double teaming Krystal is able to gain control over her foe Ashley. Jillian is able to rip off Krystal's top, thus distracting her, and allows Ashley to get the rollup for the three count.

WINNERS: Ashley & Jillian Hall

After the break Davairi and The Great Khali are in the ring with Davairi talking about the Punjabi Prison Match. Highlights of Khali's and Undertaker's feud.

Match 3: U.S. Championship- Finlay (c) vs. Bobby Lashley

Highlights of Finlay winning the U.S. title last week are shown. Lashley shoots for Finlay's legs, however, the Irishman is able to muscle out of it. Finlay fakes an arm injury to distract Lashley and then pounces on the big man. Following a mini bonsai jump the champ begins wearing down Lashley with a sleeper hold. Bobby gets in a brief flurry, however, Finlay is able to pin point the injured left knee from last week with a modified half crab. Lashley is able to rebound with a gorilla press on the champ. Regal runs in to distract the ref, and this gives Finlay the chance to grab the leprechaun from under the ring. The "little bastard" low blows Bobby, and Finlay then body slams the little guy onto his challenger. Lashley once again gains the advantage and hits an impressive stalling suplex. For the second time Regal distracts the official, allowing Finlay to get a chair passed to him. Lashley spears both Finlay and Regal, however, the Irishman smacks the big man with the chair right between the eyes. Following the DQ bell Lashley attacks both men, but the leprechaun low blows him again! Finlay is then able to deliver a nasty shillelagh shot to the back of Bobby's head.

WINNER: Bobby Lashley by DQ

The Diva dance contest was up next.

In the locker room Tatanka, Funaki, and Matt Hardy are having a conversation when Sylvain interrupts and once again promotes that everyone should visit Quebec this summer. Nothing at all comes out of this.

Match 4: Psicosis vs. Super Crazy

These two former partners size each other up before going at it. The high spots were all over the place for this one with numerous dropkicks, and somersaults. In the end Psicosis is able to pull out the victory, however, I am sure this feud is not over.

WINNER: Psicosis

Match 5: Main Event- Non-title: Rey Mysterio vs. King Booker w/ Queen Sharmell

Booker T narrowly avoids an early 619 and is able to begin the wearing down of Mysterio's right arm. A stiff side kick puts Rey down for a near fall, and that is followed up by a hammer lock. The King is absolutely dominating the champion ... again I ask why WWE is giving away this PPV main event on free TV? Mysterio is able to rebound after a series of reversals and begins to go to work on the right leg. A distraction from Sharmell allows the King to hit a Book End for a two count. Booker goes for the Scissors Kick, but Chavo (who had just run down) trips him up! Rey is able to nail the 619, followed by Droppin' the Dime to pick up the victory!

WINNER: Rey Mysterio
