PWA marks one-year anniversary
Local wrestler Jeff Black, tag team partner prepare for title shot in Goderich on July 22
By MARC HULET - Goderich Signal-Star

GODERICH, Ont. -- Professional wrestling is coming back to Goderich. The Pure Wrestling Association (PWA) is returning to town to mark their one-year anniversary on Saturday, July 22.

The show will take place at the MacKay Centre, with the doors opening at 7 p.m.

Local wrestler Jeff Black said wrestling fans will be in for a treat.

"As a present to the fans, we're also bringing in a former Extreme Championship Wrestling (ECW) and National Wrestling Alliance (NWA) heavyweight champion of the world, The King of Old School Steve Corino to help mark the one-year anniversary of our little promotion that could," he said. Steve Corino will be taking on the current PWA champion, Reggie Marley in the main event.

"A couple of wrestlers from British Columbia are also coming in, one being Mr. Beefy Goodness Vance Nevada, the current NWA Canadian Champion."

The Wildboys (Black and Andrew Davis) will be taking on the tag team champions in the semi-main event against whomever walks out with the championships the night before in Guelph.

"Andrew Davis and I will do what we have to do to become champions," Black said. "The fans might see Jeff Black do things he's never done before and Andrew Davis for that matter too. I can tell you one thing, I was doubting myself more and more with every loss in Goderich but after that win in March, I never want to lose here again and I'll die trying if I do." In other match-ups, 21st Century Fox will be defending her elite championship against Misty Haven.

"Wrestling fans should come to our anniversary show because it is going to be a culmination of everything we have done in the past year," Black said. "Everything that has made the PWA great will be displayed on this show. I can guarantee that no fan will walk out of there disappointed. If you're a fan of WWE or TNA or various other promotions out there and you haven't checked us out yet, this might be the show for you.

"If you aren't a fan of wrestling, this might be the best way to kill time on a Saturday night you've ever had."

According to the PWA, more seating will be available this time and, as always, concessions and merchandise like DVDs, pictures and t-shirts will be sold at the event.

Tickets for the event can be purchased in advance in Goderich at Sears or The Source by Circuit City.

"If you're a fan of the PWA, you won't want to miss this show, you'll kick yourself if you do," Black added.

"It's like a homecoming for the company. The first show was here... We've had some of the best shows the PWA has put on in this town... Goderich is my home and I'm proud of this town. I'm happy that we can do a show like this in front of great fans. This show is for the fans. I thank them to no end."
