Impact: Last gasp before Slammiversary
By CHRIS SOKOL -- SLAM! Wrestling
Slammiversary is right around the corner, but TNA has one more stop before we reach their "Wrestlemania." On this edition of Impact, Kevin Nash makes his highly anticipated X Division debut against a mystery opponent, Christian Cage will address his opponents at Slammiversary and a huge eight man tag will top of the show. Don't be afraid, click that "Full Story" button and check out the report.
The show began with a recap of last week's Impact where Sting advanced to King of the Mountain in one of Scott Steiner's better TNA matches.
Christian Cage made his way to the ring to speak on Slammiversary. One-by-one Cage ran down each of his opponents, telling Abyss that there was no way he could beat "Captain Charisma." He told Ron "The Truth" Killings...or in Christian's case, "Busta Rhymes," that he didn't have a chance either. Instead of going off on Jeff Jarrett, Cage said that Jarrett had already done enough to embarrass himself. Cage was about to speak on Sting, but the WCW Legend emerged from the tunnel to listen to Cage in person. Cage questioned Sting, asking if he just came out to "steal his thunder." Sting told Cage that he came to TNA to get rid of Jeff Jarrett. Cage was hesitant to believe Sting and told him that the worst thing that could happen at Slammiversary is that "Captain Charisma" could lose his title. Cage professed that it was his time and not anyone else's as he left Sting behind in the ring and stormed out of the Impact Zone. Cage is one of the best on the mic in TNA.
In the backstage area, Jeff Jarrett said that if he didn't win at King of the Mountain, he would not get another title shot. He put out a theory of his own, claiming that Sting and Christian Cage would butt heads and it would allow him the opportunity to capture gold once again. Or is Cage going to retain and defend against Sting?
Jeremy Borash caught up with Kevin Nash and Alex Shelley who seemed prepared for Nash's X Division debut. Nash told Borash that this match was part of a trilogy. He challenged Chris Sabin, then he scouted Chris Sabin and now he is going to make his X Division debut. Shelley jumped in, telling Borash that Nash's opponent is like a clone of Chris Sabin, except he doesn't look like him so he has to wear a mask. Nash wrapped the interview up by singing a song to Sabin. Little peculiar but it did the trick. Shelley and Nash have been extremely entertaining throughout this run.
Match One - The Naturals (Andy Douglas and Chase Stevens) vs. The Diamonds in the Rough (David Young and "Primetime" Elix Skipper) w/ Simon Diamond
LAX was over at the Spanish announce table for this one, pulling their whole border routine. The Naturals had their game working for the most part, countering many of the offensive attempts made by The Diamonds in the Rough. The numbers game played its role when all four men went at it, while the referee's back was turned, Simon Diamond hit the ring and knocked out Douglas with a steel chain, allowing Young to get the pinfall.
Winners Via Pinfall - The Diamonds in the Rough (David Young and "Primetime" Elix Skipper)
Post Match - Simon Diamond celebrated in the ring, but was trapped by Chase Stevens. Diamond ran out of the ring and attempted going through the Spanish Announce area. Hernandez stopped him, but Konnan let him go. The Naturals attempted to go through, but were attacked by Homicide and Hernandez and thrown back out. Shane Douglas made his way out and spoke to The Naturals. He told them that they had lost their way since they were with Chris Candido. He told them that Candido is looking down on them and that Douglas was going to take them to the top once again.
In the back, Mark "Slick" Johnson grabbed Larry Zybysko. He told Zybysko that the new face of TNA was in the building and he wanted to speak with Zybysko.
Back at ringside, Mike Tenay and Don West talked about the feud between Scott Steiner and Samoa Joe. In a pre-taped interview, both men expressed their dislike for one another and talked about how many greats they have laid to waste. Steiner talks about his big muscles beating down on Joe, while Joe retaliated, telling Steiner he is going to show him why he is professional wrestling. This will be a hard hitting match-up for sure.
Backstage, Ron "The Truth" Killings talked about coming to Slammiversary and leaving champion for a third time. Don't bet on that.
Match Two - Kevin Nash w/ Alex Shelley vs. Mr. X
Before the match, Nash grabbed a mic and complained that the midget in the ring was actually Chris Sabin. This was great. Jay Lethal, Sonjay Dutt and Chris Sabin were shown watching from the back. The match got underway, with Nash hitting a chokeslam from his knees and a first rope splash. Shelley tossed Nash a chair, which Nash sat in as Shelley threw Mr. X into a seated big boot. Jackknife Powerbomb and this one was over.
Winner Via Pinfall - Kevin Nash
Global Impact - They showed clips from the TNA House Show in Philadelphia, PA. I couldn't locate SLAM! Wrestling's Bob Kapur through the mass hysteria, but I am sure he tossed a chair or two at the ring. [See Bob's report from the show: TNA show brings back ECW memories.]
In the back, James Mitchell pumped up his "Monster" Abyss, saying that Slammiversary was going to be his opportunity to become champion.
Match Three - Eight Man Tag Team Match - "The Canadian Enforcer" Bobby Roode, "The Alpha Male" Monty Brown and America's Most Wanted ("Wildcat" Chris Harris and "The Tennessee Cowboy" James Storm) w/ Coach Scott D'Amore and Gail Kim vs. "The Phenomenal" AJ Styles, "The Fallen Angel" Christopher Daniels, "The Man Beast" Rhino and Raven
This match started off as a brawl, with all eight men duking it out in the center of the ring. Back from commercial, Team Roode seemed to have things going their way, as Roode dominated Raven. Raven fought back and Team Styles took control. The match broke down again, turning into a "finisher fest," as finishers were being hit from all directions. Rhino hit James Storm with the Gore and proceeded to chase D'Amore out of the Impact Zone. Daniel's was about to hit the Angel's Wings on Chris Harris, but Bobby Roode saved him. Gail Kim came in and hit a tornado DDT on Daniels, leaving him prone to the POOOOOUNNNNNNCEEEEEE! Period.
Winners Via Pinfall - "The Canadian Enforcer" Bobby Roode, "The Alpha Male" Monty Brown and America's Most Wanted ("Wildcat" Chris Harris and "The Tennessee Cowboy" James Storm)
Larry Zybysko was shown walking to his car when out of nowhere he looked over and was surprised by something ahead of him. Zybysko stood shocked as we left the Impact Zone.
Chris Sokol is from Long Island, NY and could guarantee that Zybysko wouldn't have been so surprised by who he saw if he had just read some of these Impact Reports.
