Smackdown: Mysterio’s night gets Extreme
By ANDY McNAMARA - SLAM! Wrestling

Tonight Mysterio’s series of ferocious matches continues with a non-title war against Finlay. Can the champ focus on the Irishman or will his mind be on the title defence against Sabu at this Sunday’s ECW: One Night Stand? Paul Heyman’s presence on the show this evening cannot be overlooked. Will his army of ECW crusaders make an impact, or is the mad scientist of wrestling simply looking to promote the pay-per-view? Dayton, Ohio is ready for some action and hopefully you are too! Onto the report!

On a serious note I would like to send my condolences out to John Tenta’s family. Tenta lost a valiant battle with cancer and will be greatly missed in the wrestling community.

William Regal begins the program by reviewing Lashley’s thrashing by himself, Booker, and Finlay. While Regal is waiting for King Booker to come out, Lashley jumps him from behind and is eventually torn off by security. GM Teddy Long comes out and makes a match between Regal and Lashley for tonight. The stipulation is that If Lashley wins then he gets to take on Booker T.

Match 1: Super Crazy w/ Psicosis vs. Brian Kendrick w/ Paul London

After an acrobatic pinning combination display, the two cruiserweights really cut loose with a series of luchadore moves. Crazy hits an impressive tornado powerbomb, and follows that up with a bow and arrow. The two go back and forth until Super Crazy nails this wild over the head belly to belly suplex off the top rope for the win. The Great Khali’s music plays and Kendrick with London are stuck in the ring. A chair shot by London does nothing and the tag champions are disposed of quickly. Psicosis and Super Crazy try to get involved, but Khali catches Crazy with a boot and a double choke slam. Psicosis escapes and runs away out of fear, leaving his partner to be decimated.

WINNER: Super Crazy

In the lockerroom the cruiserweights are talking to Nunzio about Vito when Vito himself walks in wearing a dress. Vito says that he and Nunzio will fight tonight to prove how tough he still is.

Match 2: Vito vs. Nunzio

Vito (still in a dress) clotheslines his partner right off the bat and takes it to Nunzio. The former Little Guido is able to briefly rebound against his cross dressing friend, but Vito bounces back quickly. He is able to put the finishing touches on Nunzio after a stiff right forearm, followed by a spinning DDT.

WINNER: Vito

Match 3: Non-title match- William Regal vs. Bobby Lashley (U.S. Champ)

King Booker and Queen Sharmell make their way out onto the throne beside the entry ramp. When the bell rings Regal is doing an effective job of tying up Lashley and grinding away. Lashley keeps escaping from Regal’s submissions, but the wiley veteran’s European style is baffling the youngster. The power of the United States champion kicks in, however, Regal is able to backdrop out of The Dominator. When Regal went to attack Lashley with a chair on the outside he got a spear for his trouble. Booker T rushes down to ringside to try and get Regal back into the ring before the ten count but is unsuccessful. This means Lashely gets his hands on Booker next week.

WINNER: Lashley

The Miz is hosting a bikini contest featuring Ashley, Jillian Hall, Michelle McCool, and Krystal. Each girl does their little dance until Michelle criticizes the crowd because they will never be able to satisfy her needs. She walks out with Ashley getting the loudest cheer and therefore winning the competition.

Match 4: Mark Henry vs. Raymond Rurrels

SQUASH ALERT! Raymond tries rushing Henry before the bell but The World’s Strongest Man catches the bald youngster with a clothesline. Henry delivers a powerslam but pull his opponent up before three. He nails another one and this time allows the carnage to end. This match was literally two minutes long. Henry grabs the mic and addresses the return of Batista in 28 days. He says Batista returning will be the worst mistake of his life.

WINNER: Mark Henry

Match 5: Ken Kennedy vs. Scotty 2 Hotty

Up now is the return of the one and only Mr. Ken Kennedy. Kennedy jumps Scotty before he can get his plaid t-shirt off. After skinning the cat Scotty is on the wrong end of a vicious clothesline. Mr. Kennedy is not showing any ring rust from his long injury absence and even displays a new finisher. The perfectly executed swanton bomb is his weapon of choice and it looks like Kennedy is primed to make some noise on Smackdown.

WINNER: Ken Kennedy

Mysterio and Chavo Guerrero are in the dressing room where Rey is contemplating whether he’ll stay in WWE or join ECW. Mysterio is also trying to talk Chavo out of retirement.

Following the commercials Michael Cole and Taz are in the ring waiting for Rey Mysterio to come out and make his decision whether he will stay or leave the WWE for ECW. Taz threatens Jerry Lawler that he going to choke him out at One Night Stand. Taz then shocks the world by telling Cole that he is going home to ECW and hugs Paul Heyman who greets him at the top of the entry ramp. Heyman tells Cole to sit down and that he is now taking over this segment. Rey eventually comes out and thanks Heyman for giving him his break into the United States many years ago. Mysterio says he is staying with his people on Smackdown. Heyman says he respects Rey’s decision and says he will need some good luck tonight. The ECW evil genius then joins Cole at the announce table to get ready for tonight’s main event.

Match 6: Non-title- Rey Mysterio (World Champ) vs. Finlay

Finlay is out of the gate strong, nailing a suplex and some punishing European uppercuts. After Mysterio starts to rebound the champion gets pulled under the ring and when Finlay drags him out the leprechaun is clinging onto Rey’s legs! The Irishman kicks the little guy back underneath the ring and then goes to town on the world title holder. Mysterio recaptures control and is about to hit the 619 when Sabu distracts him, allowing Finlay to nail the champ with the shillelagh. Couple that with the Celtic Cross and the Irishman escapes with a giant win. However, Mysterio’s night is not over as Sabu throws a chair at Rey’s head and then lays him on a table outside the ring. Sabu sets up a chair inside the ring and does his trademark leap off of it to the outside and onto the sprawled out champion.
