Samoa Joe vs. AJ Styles ... in Ottawa!
By TIM BAINES - Ottawa Sun

E-C-W. E-C-W. Whoa, wait a second. AJ Styles? Samoa Joe? So much for my weekly ECW lovefest. AJ Freakin'Styles and Samoa Freakin'Joe are coming to Ottawa ... very soon.

Yep, it'll be a main event that could headline any pay-per-view ... at any arena in the world.

And the two TNA superstars will go toe-to-toe at The Battle in the Capital on June 29 at the Capital Music Hall (128 York St.) in The Market.

Tickets are on sale at ticketmaster.ca ($25, with VIP tickets also including a meet and greet with the wrestlers).

Other matches include Bobby Roode vs. The Original Sinn; Bolan and Titan vs. The Hollywood Hunks.

UWA promoter Dave Dalton says his original hope was to have a three-way match between Tommy Dreamer, Terry Funk and Rhino.

But for those who haven't seen Samoa Joe or Styles in action, they're two of the most talented wrestlers in the world.

This will be one local show you won't want to miss.

"If Joe vs. AJ doesn't pack the place, I'm walking away," said Dalton. "This really gives me a chance to see if there's a TNA market here."

And about Joe's injury?

"It hit the Internet that Joe had hurt his knee," said Dalton. "His knee has been busted up for 18 months. He's good to go."

- At risk of sounding like a broken record ... geez talking about broken records dates me into a different decade ... I'm really pumped over WWE's push of its ECW product.

A product that's been under its nose all this time. A product that was unbelievably put into hibernational even after last year's terrific One Night Stand. A product that will put the smack on Smackdown! A product that could finally give me some reason to watch WWE programming other than each Monday night at 9 p.m.

ECW might never be the same as that wonderfully off-the-tracks show that Paul Heyman ran with, but I'm sure will retain some of the unpredictability that made it unique.

With One Night Stand closing in (June 11), WWE is making a kerfuffle about its newest product.

Blockbuster announcements? How about Rob Van Dam being drafted from Monday Night RAW ... and Kurt Angle from Smackdown!

- How about Edge and Mick Foley facing Dreamer and Terry Funk at One Night Stand? And how about John Cena vs. RVD? And how about Sabu vs. Rey Mysterio?

How about names like Axl Rotten, Balls Mahoney, CW Anderson and The Sandman (God, I hope Vince McMahon pays the money and gets this guy's entrance song, Enter Sandman from Metallica, no cheap imitations accepted)?

Yep, there's plenty to be excited about.

Jerry Lawler can make all the ECW putdowns he wants (directed at Tazz: "I don't crawl around on my hands and knees with an orange towel on my head."), but that just adds to the entertainment value.

Let the bodies hit the floor.

- WWE vs. ECW: Head to Head will air in Canada on TSN Wednesday at 9 p.m.

- Wrestling has been deregulated in Ontario. That cuts down on promoter fees. Wrestlers won't have to pay a licence fee, either. This could mean more shows, but UWA's Dave Dalton is concerned. "It could turn (this area) into the wild, wild west," he said. "The first person that breaks his neck ... and then the promoter has no insurance? I shudder to think what might happen," he said.

- Dave Meltzer of The Wrestling Observer says that the "flashback" fake Kane on Monday Night RAW was Drew Hankinson (Freakin Deacon in WWE's Deep South Wrestling developmental territory in Georgia).

- Johnny Nitro (with Melina) made his RAW debut.

- Will Triple H join Vince McMahon's Kiss My Ass club tomorrow night on RAW?
