Smackdown: All hail King Booker
By ANDY McNAMARA - SLAM! Wrestling

Portland, Oregon is the home of mayhem as Smackdown crashes into town. Hometown hero Rowdy Roddy Piper returns for a special edition of Piper's Pit with The Great Khali. Along with that, two classic rivals battle it out as Kurt Angle takes on Rey Mysterio in Kurt's farewell match before he leaves for the new ECW. Sprinkle in a King Booker T and Bobby Lashley encounter and you have the recipe for one wild night. On to the report!

Match 1: Kurt Angle Farewell Match- Rey Mysterio vs. Kurt Angle

Paul Heyman joins the announce team in what is Angle's final match on Smackdown before becoming a part of the new ECW. Michael Cole says that Mysterio's first WWE pay-per-view match was against Angle and it's only fitting that these two great rivals finish off Kurt's run on this show. As always Angle and Mysterio click and combine high flying with mat wrestling. Coming out of the commercial, neither competitor has been able to sustain control for any prolonged amount of time. The Olympic gold medalist wears down the World champion with several submission holds and after a brief flurry, continues to ground Mysterio. Rey hits an amazing baseball slide, which he turns into a hurracarrana onto Kurt outside the ring. The champion is able to escape an Angle Slam with a foot on the rope, and then connects with a 619. Angle jumps up and blocks the frog splash, and turns it into an Ankle Lock, which Mysterio sneaks out of. All this chaos slows down with Kurt nailing a release German suplex outside the ring. Rey cannot get back into the ring to beat the ten count and your winner by countout is Kurt Angle. Following the bell, the two warriors shake hands and hug.

WINNER: Kurt Angle by countout

Nunzio is warming up in the back preparing for his match with Matt Hardy. A backstage guy does not know where Vito is when asked.

Match 2: Matt Hardy vs. Nunzio

Both men slug it out with Hardy gaining an advantage with a unique sit down powerbomb out of the corner. The two exchange momentum, but Hardy picks up the pinfall with a Twist Of Fate. After the bell Vito comes out ... dressed in a dress. Nunzio looks shocked and disgusted; Vito tries to play off that it's no big deal.

WINNER: Matt Hardy

The Miz introduces hall of famer Rowdy Roddy Piper for the vintage Piper's Pit segment. Piper's guest tonight is The Great Khali joined by Davairi. Piper and Khali stand toe to toe and he pokes fun at the big man, who we find out does not speak English. The Hot Rod stands on the second rope to get eye to eye with Khali, when the monster grabs Piper's throat! Davairi calls him off. After some more insults from the Hot Rod, he slaps Davairi. This proves to be a giant mistake for the legend as Khali is set loose, chopping down Piper. The Great Khali stands over the fallen Hot Rod as the show cuts to commercials.

Match 3: Jillian Hall vs. Krystal

Smackdown's newest diva, Ashley Mossaro joins the announce team for this diva contest. This match is essentially to get over the upcoming Diva Search. I'll give these ladies credit, the wrestling was kept simple and the technique was relatively crisp. Jillian gets the win after she stops a victory roll by Krystal. The two shake hands, not a bad little bout. Michelle McCool (the fitness gymnast from the last contest) walks out in a Stacey Kiebler/Miss Hancock costume. She says that things around the WWE are about to get a whole lot "hotter". So it looks like Michelle is the new heel diva.

WINNER: Jillian Hall

Match 4: Mark Henry vs. Paul Burchill

Clips of Mark Henry decimating Chris Benoit last week are shown. Henry's victim once again is Paul Burchill. The World's Strongest Man crushes Burchill numerous times against the steel post on the outside, causing the pirate to bleed out the mouth from the inside. Henry then bends Burchill in a modified camel clutch underneath the bottom rope, just like he did to Benoit last week. The referee throws the match out.

WINNER: Paul Burchill by DQ

Match 5: Finlay vs. Caden Mathews

Welcome to squash match number two for the night. Naturally Finlay assaults the youngster, pounding him in and out of the ring. Mathews is laying part way under the ring when he is pulled underneath! The Irishman pulls Mathews back out, hits The Celtic Cross for a quick pinfall. After the bell, Finlay pulls out the leprechaun from underneath the ring! The little guy attacks Caden Finlay has to pull off his mini partner and throws him back under the ring!

WINNER: Finlay

It is announced that Sabu will face Rey Mysterio for the World Heavyweight Championship at ECW's One Night Stand. A montage of Sabu is shown. Tazz then runs down Jerry Lawler and challenges him to a match at One Night Stand.

Match 6: Main Event- King Booker T w/Queen Sharmell vs. Bobby Lashley

William Regal comes out and introduces King Booker, repeating "All hail King Booker" over and over. The new king and his queen Sharmell gradually make their royal entrance into the ring. The United States Champion Lashley is now eye to eye with Book for our non-title main event of the evening. Lashley comes out fast and furious, until Booker delivers a hangman to his opponent onto the top rope. The U.S. champ is able to deliver a belly-to-belly suplex, then a British Bulldog style powerslam for the three count. Regal and Finlay run down to attack the victor from behind. Booker hits The Book End on the fallen Lashley. The Englishman and Irishman are thrown off by Lashley, but the numbers game is too much for the youngster as King Booker connects with the Scissors Kick. The throne is now in the ring, and as Book is sitting down, his two henchman force Lashley to bow down, and then kiss his boot. The show ends with Sharmell chanting, "All hail King Booker."

WINNER: Bobby Lashley
