Smackdown: Is JBL gone for good?
By ANDY McNAMARA - SLAM! Wrestling

Change is in the air with a new king, and new Tag Team champions being crowned this past Sunday. What will the fallout from Judgment Day be? The coronation of King Of The Ring winner Booker T will take place, and Rey Mysterio finally gains revenge on his arch rival JBL. From Bakersfield, California get ready for another jam-packed edition of Smackdown!

JBL begins the program by once again -- you guessed it -- talking. He says Mysterio's victory at Judgment Day was a fluke and he wanted to challenge him again tonight for the title. Rey tricks Bradshaw into accepting any challenge for his United States championship... and that man is Lashley!

Match 1: U.S. Championship - JBL (c)vs. Bobby Lashley

JBL slams Lashley's head into the turnbuckle to no effect. After wearing the big man down with clotheslines and kicks, Lashley hits a spear out of nowhere. He covers the champ and picks up the upset victory! Your new United States champion is Lashley!

WINNER: NEW U.S. CHAMPION- Bobby Lashley

JBL runs into Teddy Long's office and demands a rematch. The GM says he will fire Bradshaw if he doesn't settle down. JBL is so confident he'll beat Rey that he will leave Smackdown if he loses. Teddy makes the main event tonight for the World Heavyweight Championship, and if JBL loses then he is gone from Smackdown.

Match 2: Tatanka vs. Simon Dean

The new full fledged member of the Lakota tribe is on a roll early on over the fitness guru. Dean gains a brief advantage after sucker punching Tatanka while the referee was separating the two. The Native American quickly gets the advantage back hitting the Wakea (a swinging sidewalk slam) for the win.

WINNER: Tatanka

Matt Hardy is in Teddy Long's office, and they are interrupted by Paul Heyman. Long says he is watching Heyman to make sure he's not snooping around and scouting his Smackdown talent.

Match 3: Chris Benoit vs. Mark Henry

Three 6 Mafia played Mark Henry down to the ring as these two heavy hitters started off the match by pounding away on one another. Henry keeps escaping from the Crossface, so Benoit uses his quickness to nail the big man with dropkicks and chops. Following the commercials, The World's Strongest Man takes control by smashing Benoit with a huge splash from behind. After bashing away on Henry's thick neck The Crippler finally applies the Crossface...for about five seconds. Henry rolls out of it, and connects with a splash and several drive ins to the steel post. Henry is disqualified for continuous attacks on Benoit's spine. The Crippler is limp and bleeding from the mouth. The World's Strongest Man will not quit and leans back in a modified camel clutch on Benoit inside the ring. Henry laughs and walks away, leaving his fallen opponent screaming in pain.

WINNER: Chris Benoit by DQ

William Regal is called out to oversee the coronation of King Booker. Booker and Sharmell are rolled out on a massive gold vehicle. Regal reads out to the crowd that King Booker is the greatest king since King Henry VIII. Book is then caped and crowned by his Queen Sharmell. William Regal ends the segment by repeatedly yelling, "long live King Booker".

Vito and Nunzio are hanging out backstage. Vito denies all the cross dressing rumors going around and get ready for their tag team championship number one contender match.

Match 4: Tag Team Championship- Paul London & Brian Kendrick (c) vs. Nunzio & Vito

Tazz informs us that Melina and Nitro were fired from Smackdown for their attack on Mercury after the loss at Judgment Day. Vito is isolating London in his corner and the two Italians are flattening out the co-champ like pizza dough. London eventually escapes, Kendrick cleans house and gets the pinfall on Nunzio.

WINNERS: London & Kendrick

The recap of The Great Khali destroying The Undertaker at Judgment Day is shown.

Chavo is backstage with Rey Mysterio telling his friend that even though he's retired he will accompany Rey to the ring to make sure JBL does not win the World Heavyweight Championship.

Match 5: Finlay vs. Paul Burchill

Say what you want about Smackdown gimmicks, but man does Burchill make me laugh! Finlay is putting the hurt on Burchill with his usual smash mouth style. As quickly as this one began the pirate was jobbed out after Finlay's side slam finisher. After the bell Finlay goes under the ring to pull out... that's right... a leprechaun. The wee one beats away on Burchill, then Finlay throws the leprechaun back underneath the ring.

WINNER: Finlay

Match 6: World Heavyweight Championship - Rey Mysterio w/Chavo Guerrero (c) vs. JBL

If JBL loses this match he has told GM Theodore Long that he will quit Smackdown. Bradshaw looks extremely intense and has Rey grounded in the early minutes. JBL delivered a quick Clothesline From Hell and pinned Rey... but his foot was on the rope, which the ref did not see. The Texan begins celebrating when the official reverses his decision and the match continues. After the break Bradshaw is still all over Mysterio even doing the mocking Eddie dance. Chavo has not gotten involved in the match so far and Rey has not delivered any offence whatsoever. Finally Mysterio reverses a fall away slam into a DDT, then nails a 619; however, his luck runs out as JBL changes Droppin' The Dime into a powerslam. Bradshaw then pulls out the Three Amigos and mocks Rey once more. The referee is knocked out after running into the exposed turnbuckle that Bradshaw took the padding off of. Rey is then low blowed and Chavo laid out with a steel chair. Mysterio counters with a low blow of his own, delivers a tornado DDT onto the steel chair, hits 619, followed by Droppin' The Dime. JBL is beaten, looks shocked, and now has to leave Smackdown. The crowd chants the goodbye song to Bradshaw and the program goes off the air.

WINNER: Rey Mysterio
