Smackdown invades merry old London, England tonight with some big ticket
matchups. The King Of The Ring tournament continues as Lashley takes on Mark Henry. Kurt Angle will also be seeking redemption as he challenges Rey Mysterio for his World
title. Does Mysterio have one more miracle left in him?
Well there's only one way to find out ... on to the report!
Match 1- U.S. Championship: JBL (c) vs. William Regal
/b>
JBL rolls out in a limo that has the wheel on the other side of the car.
Bradshaw essentially gives his usual speech about how great a United States
Champion he is, and generally runs down the British fans. He says he wants
to fight the "bravest Englishman, which is like trying to find the tallest
midget." William Regal's music then hits and the
Blackpool, England native comes down and insults JBL and Americans. Regal
then sucker punches Bradshaw and takes it to the champion. The Englishman is
dominating until a big boot turns the tide for Bradshaw. After a beautiful
t-bone suplex by Regal, he applies the STF and JBL barely grabs the rope
with two fingers to break the hold. This is all the champ needs to set up
the Clothesline From Hell and retain the belt.
WINNER: JBL
Booker T and Sharmell strut in to talk to Krystal about his upcoming
King of the Ring match against Kurt Angle next week and Angle's contest with
Mysterio for the title tonight. Gunner Scott (who upset Booker a couple of
weeks ago) introduces himself to Book, and Booker states that he'd beat down
Gunner tonight... but he has a chest cold. So Booker says he'll find Gunner an
opponent instead to fight this evening.
Match 2-: MNM & Gregory Helms vs. Kendrick & London & Super Crazy
Kendrick, London, and Super Crazy catch their opponents off guard, but
interference from the lovely Melina quickly shifts the momentum. After the
hot tag to London, the cruiserweight runs wild with several drop saults and
other high flying manoeuvres. London sinks in the quick roll up on Helms for
the victory. MNM look shocked and disappointed, as Kendrick and London
continue their winning streak against the tag champs.
WINNER: Kendrick, London, Super Crazy
Backstage Melina is yelling at her guys for losing the match earlier.
Melina then rips a makeup mirror away from Jillian and makes fun of her for
getting fired last week by JBL. The two begin having a make up fight, with
Mercury and Nitro along with security eventually ripping the two divas
apart.
Match 3: King of the Ring Round 1: Mark Henry vs. Bobby Lashely
The two monsters start out in a battle of strength. After some back and
forth action Lashley goes for The Dominator, but Henry muscles out of it.
After The World's Strongest Man lunges at Lashley, he pulls down the top
rope sending Henry tumbling to the outside and banging his head off of the
announce table. The referee counts out Henry and Lashley advances in the
King of the Ring tournament. After some celebration Lashley is jumped from
behind and Henry proceeds to pound away on the helpless victor.
WINNER: Bobby Lashley
Krystal interviews Rey Mysterio about his World Title defense against
Kurt Angle. He generally says he loves being champion.
Booker T and Sharmell come down to announce Gunner Scott's opponent for
tonight. Booker announces that his opponent will be Finlay!
Match 4: Gunner Scott vs. Finlay
Finlay is off to a quick start with some chain wrestling and his
standard beat downs on Gunner. Scott is actually holding his own with the
Irishman, until Booker T (who is at ringside doing commentary) delivers a
sidekick on the outside when the referee's back as turned. This gives Finlay
a chance to finish off the youngster, and then both Booker and Finlay start
to dismantle Gunner. Benoit runs down to make the save and clears the ring.
WINNER: Finlay
The 7-foot-3, 400-pound Great Khali makes his way to the ring
accompanied by Davairi. This guy is truly monstrous. Davairi generally runs
down The Undertaker and talks about how great Khali is.
Match 5 - World Heavyweight Champion: Rey Mysterio (c) vs. Kurt Angle
Internet rumours have been flying around that Kurt Angle is suffering
once again from severe neck pains so hopefully he won't miss any action.
This should be a great match regardless as these two always give a five-star
contest. Some great back and forth quick paced action carries on
until Angle whips Mysterio over the top with a nasty belly to belly suplex.
Following the commercial break, Angle is in control but both men are
battling ferociously. Smackdown is worth checking out for this match alone,
what great athleticism. Mysterio nails the 619, and goes for the West Coast
Pop, but Angle catches the champ and locks in the Ankle Lock. Mark Henry
pops in out of nowhere and smashes away on Angle. The big man sets up a wood
table, lays Angle on it and splashes him through it by jumping off the
apron!!! Unbelievable! The program goes off the air with Angle being helped
by backstage agents.
