SLAM! Speaks: Readers pick their champs
By SLAM! Wrestling Staff

Just a few short days ago, the SLAM! Wrestling staff made their choices for the next WWE champs. Now, it's the readers' turns to voice their thoughts.

Once again, the loyal SLAM!-a-holics have come out in droves to offer their opinions on the hot-button topic of the ring wars. This time, it was who would drop their title first - John Cena or Rey Mysterio Jr. - and who they would drop it to.

We'd like to thank everyone who wrote to us with their thoughts. Here's what you, the SLAM! reader, had to say...

R. Mackenzie
I agree with you when you say that Edge would be the one to take the World Heavyweight championship from Rey Mysterio.

I also agree that John Cena will lose the WWE Championship to either Triple H or Rob Van Dam. I think Cena getting his ass kicked at the ECW PPV and crowning RVD as the new champ would be awesome. But I'm gonna bank on Cena losing the belt to Triple H at the June PPV, which has featured Hell-In-A-Cell matches for the past three years (two at Bad Blood, one at Vengeance).

So my prediction: Rey Mysterio will drop first. John Cena's haters are at least tuning in to see if the champ will get beaten. Rey, however, seems to have lost momentum, even before WrestleMania 22.

Rob S.
I think you're dead on that Cena will lose the belt first; but he's going to lose it to Edge, which will set up a program with RVD, who will take the title at the ECW PPV.

Steve Borzoni
With Orton out of the picture for now, it looks like Cena will be the first to lose his belt. I think Edge has the best chance of taking it from him, before having to give it up to RVD in a "hardcore" angle at One Night Stand.

When Vince is ready to take the title off Rey, however, don't be surprised if he is thrown into a program with his former tag team championship partner - Batista. Vince loves the David and Golliath angle, and if Orton really is in some trouble, he will want him to eat it for a while and then make him work to regain his spot, as he did with Triple H for the curtain call incident.

Tony Brice, Fort Mitchell, KY
I have become bored with WWE lately, especially Raw (too much Vince and family and other nonsense), and have become a big TNA fan; however, I still tune in and watch parts of Raw and Smackdown every week.

WHAT YOU THINK
Who do you think will drop their world title first?
John Cena - 62%
Rey Mysterio - 38%
I don't know if Vince and co. are smart enough to do it, but the match up I think would bring some spark and excitement back to their shows would be to have Rob Van Dam battle his former tag team partner, Rey Mysterio, for his belt at ECW One Night Stand, with RVD taking the belt and a return match or two to follow. RVD's hardcore, X-division style against Rey's Lucha style would make for some very exciting matches that would be something new and different from WWE that would appeal to old school fans like myself.

Brian from Beverly, MA
Call me an overestimator of the WWE creative staff, but I think Batista will come back to Smackdown with a vengence and destroy Rey. He did say that whoever was champ when he came back would be dropping the title to him...

Have we seen Cena's last PPV stand? Will Rey Rey's belt go bye-bye? Time will tell. In the meantime, pre-order your copy of WrestleMania XXII from the SLAM! Store and watch these two men at their finest hours.
