Smackdown: Undertaker faces a giant problem
By ANDY McNAMARA - SLAM! Wrestling

The fallout from WrestleMania 22 is upon us and the stakes could not be higher. An absolutely huge World Heavyweight Championship match will explode tonight between Randy Orton and new champ Rey Mysterio. If that wasn't enough Mark Henry has demanded a rematch against The Undertaker; with catastrophic results. From Peoria, Illinois here comes Smackdown!

Match 1: Non-title Match- MNM (c) vs. Brian Kendrick & Paul London

The two divisions not utilized at WrestleMania, the tag team and cruiserweights, begin the night with some impressive athleticism. MNM dominating for the most parts, including a unique break dance spinning leg drop by Nitro. After being isolated for the majority of the match, London receives the hot tag and is flipping all over the place. The pace of this contest is fantastic. London scores the upset victory by rolling up Mercury after a Boston crab attempt ... could this be the start of a push for the dynamic duo?

WINNERS: London & Kendrick

Booker T and Sharmell come into Teddy Long's office smiling and sucking up to the General Manager. Teddy reminds Booker that he and Sharmell lost at WrestleMania against The Boogeyman. Book says the reason he is so happy is because he got a restraining order against The Boogeyman.

Match 2: Booker T vs. Gunner Scott

The big question is will The Boogeyman obey the court order? As expected Booker is taking it to Gunner. After a brief offensive flurry by Gunner, The Boogeyman's music hits and distracts Booker. While his back is turned Gunner Scott rolls up Booker from behind! What an upset! Teddy Long comes out and says there must have been a music malfunction to cause Boogey's song to play. He smiles and Booker T is livid.

WINNER: Gunner Scott

Backstage a pumped up Gunner Scott runs into Chris Benoit who congratulates the newcomer.

Match 3: Chris Benoit vs. Simon Dean

Benoit runs down the ramp and ambushes Dean with a clothesline right off his motorized vehicle. The Crippler is in a surly mood after losing his U.S. title at Mania and is beating Dean all over the ring. Simon rebounds somewhat with a sleeper but is quickly put through two German suplexes and right into The Crossface. Dean taps out to give Benoit the submission. All of a sudden some patriotic music and video plays in the arena. It's an announcement stating that next week will be a celebration for JBL's U.S. championship victory. Benoit is incensed.

WINNER: Chris Benoit

Following the commercial Kurt Angle and Orton confront each other backstage. Angle slaps The Legend Killer in the face after some Orton taunts. Angle just screams and Orton stands there in shock.

Match 4: World Heavyweight Championship- Rey Mysterio (c) vs. Randy Orton

Why this match is not the main event I have no idea. The belt looks to almost be as big as Rey, but based on pure talent he definitely is not out of place with the championship. After sizing one another up, Orton is able to ground Mysterio and pound away. Rey is able to rebound and hits a huge high flying leap off the top rope onto Orton on the outside. Later on the tide turns in Orton's favour once again, and The Legend Killer is wearing down the champion with submissions. Rey is working at a feverish pace and looks incredible. Mysterio connects on a 619 off the ring post, then normally, and caps it all off by Dropping the Dime on the back of Orton's neck. Rey successfully defends his World Heavyweight Championship.

WINNER: Rey Mysterio

Krystal interviews Rey in the back, and Mysterio thanks his fans for believing in him. He then brings out his family to celebrate with him.

William Regal runs into Paul Burchill in the hallway. Regal gives Burchill a chance to back out of their match tonight by wearing a suit he had made for him. Burchill says he's having fun being a pirate and is undefeated with the gimmick. Burchill makes a deal with Regal in that the loser of the match has to dress how the winner chooses. This should be great!

Match 5: William Regal vs. Paul Burchill

The two former tag partners try to out muscle one another, with Burchill eventually getting the better of the exchange. After some great back and forth action, Burchill delivers that great swinging suplex/toss finisher of his, picking up the win. Regal will have to dress how Burchill wants to next week.

WINNER: Paul Burchill

Teddy Long makes a huge announcement in the locker room saying he is bringing back the King of the Ring tournament. This tourney will not be on PPV but starting on Smackdown next week. The first match will be Kurt Angle versus Randy Orton.

Match 6: Main Event- The Undertaker vs. Mark Henry

Before the start of the match Henry says he is still not afraid of The Undertaker and wants revenge tonight. Henry starts things off with some powerful clotheslines and punches. Taker tries putting down the big man with Old School, but The World's Strongest Man will not go off his feet. All of a sudden Davairi and a giant of a man walk down the aisle and the giant is waiting for The Dead Man in the ring. This huge athlete towers over Taker and is manhandling him. The program ends with the giant glaring at the fallen Undertaker.
