WrestleMania XXII: Just the stats
By JON WALDMAN -- SLAM! Wrestling

WrestleMania is now over and we can look back with a statistical eye at the "greatest spectacle in sports entertainment."

As has become a tradition here at SLAM! Wrestling, we're going to take a look at some of the interesting facts and figures of this year's 'Mania.

This year's show is highlighted by a couple streaks continuing while another one coming to a close, a shift in the border battle and some intriguing title trivia.

Here's the official breakdown of WrestleMania 22:

  • John Cena is the first wrestler since WrestleMania XX to retain the WWE Heavyweight Championship at WrestleMania. The last time Raw's major title was successfully defended, however, was WrestleMania IX, when Triple H beat Booker T.

  • Rey Mysterio becomes the first wrestler to hold belts in two weight divisions (Cruiserweight, Heavyweight) in WWE. Several wrestlers, including Chris Jericho and Eddie Guerrero, held WWE Heavyweight and WCW Cruiserweight Titles.

  • Rey is also now one of only six men to have had extended tenures in ECW to hold one of the top belts in WWE after their stay in Philly. The others, of course, are Jericho, Guerrero, Chris Benoit, Steve Austin and Mick Foley.

  • The only title belts not defended at WM XXII were the Cruiserweight and WWE Tag Team Titles. This is the second year in a row that neither title has been on the big show.

  • As long as he's wrestling, The Undertaker will be on top of the matches list. He now has 14 under his belt. Of course, he also has the most wins and longest win streak.

  • Big Show's victory at 'Mania, believe it or not, was his first in his seven WrestleManias. The wrestler with the most losses at 'Mania without a win is now Goldust at 0-4. Vince McMahon, however, is closing in on the record, now standing at 0-3.

  • It should also be noted that Triple H is getting up there in terms of losing streaks, with three losses in a row. He has a ways to go before he catches Tito Santana, who went on an incredible seven-'Mania losing streak. Santana's bouts, however, were not all singles matches.

  • This is the first year that a Canadian is not walking out of WrestleMania with a title belt since WM 15. In total, Canadians went 1-2, with Edge being the only Canuck with a victory.

  • Since WM21, two Canadians, Jericho and Christian (Cage) have departed from the company, while Rene Dupree is not on the active WWE roster (Dupree is currently in OVW rehabbing from injury). Sylvan Grenier (Smackdown) and Val Venis (Raw) are the only other Canadians on the active roster, while Test appears to be headed back to the Fed.

  • Wrestlers making their 'Mania debut this past weekend included three divas Candice Michelle, Mickie James and Sharmell Sullivan. Male wrestlers making their 'Mania debuts were Bobby Lashley, Fit Finlay, Carlito, Chris Masters and The Boogeyman. Carlito, it should be noted, was part of 'Mania last year in a talk-show environment. By comparison, last year's 'Mania only had two combatants debut Christy Hemme and Akebono.

  • The last time two Women's matches were at 'Mania was at WMXX. Not coincidentally, Torrie Wilson was involved in both non-title matches.
