Raw: McMahons remain in spotlight
By DALE PLUMMER - SLAM! Wrestling
Saturday Night's Main Event is in the rear-view mirror, and Wrestlemania is less than two weeks away. But you wouldn't know it, as the Vince McMahon ego-fest continues on RAW, this week from Memphis, Tennessee.
The Spirit Squad give Shane-O-Mac a shout-out for his "victory" over Shawn Michaels on Saturday. Vince and Shane head to the ring, amidst a blizzard of confetti and balloons, with a brass band playing them to the ring. Once in the ring, Shane gloats, and then strokes his dad's ego. Vince tells the crowd that he didn't screw Michaels; Shawn did it to himself. Vince promises he will win at Wrestlemania, and now the match will be "No Holds Barred". Tonight, though, HBK will be facing Triple H. Vince and Shane continue to celebrate, when John Cena interrupts. The champ tells Vince he wants Triple H tonight. Shane tells Cena to leave or face a beat down. Vince steps between the two, and announces a tag team match. HBK and John Cena versus Triple H and Shane.
After the break, Shane is not happy with the turn of events. Neither is Triple H; he tells Vince that there had better be a plan.
Match # 1 – Carlito vs. Kane
(Ah yes, it's time for the tried and true formula of splitting up the tag teams, and having them face each other in singles competition.)
Carlito nails Kane with a DDT, only to have the Big Red Machine sit right back up. After a side slam, Kane climbs the turnbuckle. Carlito counters the flying clothesline with a drop kick. Kane rolls away from a moonsault, but Carlito lands on his feet, only to run into a big boot. A thumb to the eye counters a choke slam, and Carlito goes to the apron. He springboards off the ropes, but right into the right hand of Kane, who sends him to the mat with a choke slam.
Winners via pinfall: Kane
After the break, Masters and Carlito argue. The Masterpiece tells Carlito not to screw up his Wrestlemania debut, and pay attention to his match with the Big Show to see how things get done.
The next inductees into the WWE Hall of Fame are the Blackjacks.
Match #2 – Ric Flair vs. RVD vs. Shelton Benjamin – Triple Threat Intercontinental Match
Flair and RVD have words with each other, before turning on Benjamin. The IC champ is knocked from the ring, and RVD hits Flair with Rolling Thunder, but Benji breaks the count, pulling Flair from the ring. The two exchange punches, when RVD comes over the top with a somersault senton. We return from commercial as Flair is on the receiving end of a back body drop. Back in the ring, Flair tastes rolling thunder, again. Benjamin grabs his belt, but RVD hits him with a Van Daminator. RVD misses the five star frog splash on Flair, and the Nature Boy locks in the figure four. Benjamin slides in the ring and covers Flair, as he has RVD in the figure four, and gets the three count.
Winner via pinfall: Shelton Benjamin
Mick Foley makes his way to the ring. He thanks Edge for what happened Saturday night. Mick says he tasted blood -- his own. But now he is thirsty for more, but he wants Edge's. He says something was awoken: a monster, known as Cactus Jack. Lita heads to the ring, and wants to talk to the old Mick. She wants Mick to call off the hardcore match, and have a straight wrestling match. Foley is too smart though, and wants to know when she his going to slap him so Edge can attack from behind. Mick yells at Lita slap him, and she does, but Mick catches Edge coming out of the crowd. He then blocks a low blow attempt from Lita, and locks in the Mandible Claw, as Edge watches from ringside.
Match #3 – Victoria vs. Torrie Wilson
Candice distract Torrie right from bell, allowing Victoria to hit the Widow's Peak. Candice jumps in the ring, and does her little spin move over Torrie's prone body.
Winner via pinfall: Victoria
Match #4 – Chris Masters vs. Big Show
Well, Masters help up his end of the bargain. He plasters Show with a chair shot right in front of the ref. After the DQ, Masters tries to lock in the Masterlock, but instead drives Show into the ring post.
Winner via DQ: Big Show
Mickie James is in the ring with a big present. She offers it to Trish, so there are no hard feelings. Trish doesn't come out, so Mickie offers a sneak peek. The box is lifted to reveal someone wrapped in a blanket. This brings Trish to ringside. Mickie pulls away the sheet and it's Ashley. Mickie yells at Trish, but is pulled from the ring. Trish tries to untie Ashley, but is attacked. Mickie nails a huge DDT. She then gives Trish a kiss, and blood drips from her nose.
(I don't know if I should be excited or disgusted. But at least this storyline is moving along, now.)
Match #5 – John Cena and Shawn Michaels vs. Triple H and Shane McMahon w/ Vince
HBK chases Shane into the crowd, but is held down by Vince's security detail. Cena wants Triple H in the ring, but Trips stays on the apron. The champ catches Shane coming off the top turnbuckle with a fist. Vince jumps on the mike, and has Cena disqualified for using a clenched fist.
Winner via DQ: Triple H and Shane McMahon
Vince has security escort Cena to the back, and announces that this is now a handicap match.
Match #6 – Shawn Michaels vs. Triple H and Shane McMahon w/ Vince
HBK is hit with a cheap shot by Triple H. Michaels fights back, hitting Shane with a flying forearm, and then nips up to hit an inverted atomic drop on Triple H and Shane. Hunter is knocked from the ring, and HBK climbs the turnbuckle. Michaels drops an elbow onto Shane, and starts to warm up the band. Triple H grabs HBK, and crotches him on the ring post. Shane climbs the turnbuckle, but is cut off by Cena. HBK hits Triple H with a low blow, and Shane is clotheslined over the ropes. Vince sends his security into the ring, as Shane and Triple H head up the ramp. Cena hits an F-U, and Michaels catches a guard with Sweet Chin Music. Vince announces that next week John Cena will face ... Vince McMahon.
Winner: No Contest
