Impact: Our Destination? Hype
By CHRIS SOKOL - SLAM! Wrestling

We are on the eve of Destination X with an action-packed episode of TNA Impact. Thankfully Alex Shelley has decided to step away from behind the camera and partake in some in ring action, while an eight-man tag match highlights the show. Brace yourself for Destination X, as we make our final stop at the Impact Zone before PPV.

Match One - NWA World Tag Team Championship - America's Most Wanted ("Wildcat" Chris Harris and "The Tennessee Cowboy" James Storm) w/ Gail Kim (C) vs. The Naturals (Andy Douglas and Chase Stevens)

Good to have The Naturals back in the main picture after being out of it for a while. Stevens started off the match hot and heavy, taking out both members of AMW and putting them in a few precarious positions. Back from the commercial break The Naturals were still in firm control, but things quickly took a turn for the worse. Harris displayed some strength with a standing vertical delayed suplex. Lots of double teaming followed, while Gail Kim, "The Canadian Enforcer" Bobby Roode and "Showtime" Eric Young did their part in interfering. A Death Sentence finished things off in this one, allowing AMW to retain the gold.

Winners Via Pinfall and STILL NWA WORLD TAG TEAM CHAMPIONS - America's Most Wanted ("Wildcat" Chris Harris and "The Tennessee Cowboy" James Storm)

They played an Ultimate X Promo video that showed AJ Styles, Christopher Daniels and Samoa Joe talking about their feud and the Ultimate X match. Should be one of the highlight matches on the PPV. Maybe after this TNA can bring some different X stars into the title scene. It's worth thinking about, right?

A Destination X Promo followed. Will it be two solid PPVs in a row for TNA?

In his office, TNA Commissioner Larry Zybysko was confronted by Jeremy Borash. Borash asked Zybysko about Monty Brown and Christian Cage's absence from Impact. Zybysko informed Borash that after what happened between the two on the last edition of Impact, he did not want anything to spoil their match at Destination X. He also announced that Earl Hebner would be reffing the Cage/Brown match. Team Canada's Coach Scott D'Amore barged in and began berating the commish, telling him that he didn't want to have to clean up his messes too. After D'Amore left, Borash questioned Zybysko as to what he was talking about, garnering a "He doesn't know what he's talking about" from the commish.

Match Two - Three Way X Division Qualifier - Alex Shelley vs. Sonjay Dutt vs. Chris Sabin

The winner of this match advanced to the Four Way International X Division Showdown at Destination X, as well as Team America in the International X Cup. Sabin and Dutt showed some teamwork early on, but when Shelley got in their heads that all changed. Larry Zybysko made his way out to watch this match, but had to retreat to the back after Mark "Slick" Johnson came out and started begging for a referee job (he wants to ref the Main Event at Destination X). Back in the ring, Sabin was able to send Dutt down and deliver Shelley with a Cradle Shock for the pinfall victory.

Winner Via Pinfall - Chris Sabin

They played a promo video hyping the Sting... err... Steve Borden/Jeff Jarrett situation. We then went to Jeff Jarrett for his comments on the situation. Jarrett denied that he or Shelley crossed the line. He talked about his surprise at Destination X and how Eric Young was an idiot for creating this whole mess. This whole Sting angle has been a big disappointment to this point.

Next up, TNA played a video package of Mike Tenay and Chris Sabin visiting White Sox training camp and presenting Dale Torborg and AJ Pierzynski with a replica of the TNA X Division Championship. Cool thing to do.

Another Destination X Promo followed. Just get the PPV already.

Mike Tenay and Don West conducted a split screen interview via satellite with Monty Brown and Christian Cage. The two bickered back and forth throughout, with Cage informing Brown that while he was in football he was no Lawrence Taylor, just like in wrestling he is no Christian Cage. Brown told Cage that he would walk out of Destination X champion. This one is my predication for Match of the Night.

Match Three - Eight Man Tag Team Match - Maverick Matt, The Diamonds in the Rough ("Primetime" Elix Skipper and David Young) and "The Prince of Punk" Shannon Moore w/ Simon Diamond and Traci Brooks vs. "The War Machine" Rhino, Team 3D (Brother Ray and Brother Devon) and Ron "The Truth" Killings

Rhino and Young started out, with Rhino getting the better of the exchange. Brother Ray came in along with Moore and kept the offensive flow going in the favor of the faces. It took some quadruple teaming to change things, but Skipper turned the tide of the match. Simon Diamond rudely interrupted the commentary, complaining about what happened with Pierzynski and Torborg, letting them know that it wasn't over. "The Truth" came into the match and cleaned house before things completely broke down. Traci got involved and received a scoop slam from Brother Ray and "Wasssup" Headbutt from Brother Devon. There was an argument over who should get the table and that delay allowed the heels a chance to comeback. The brawl moved to the floor, leaving "The Truth," Rhino and The Diamonds in the ring. Rhino Gore'd Skipper, while "The Truth" hit the Axe Kick on Young for the win.

Winners Via Pinfall - "The War Machine" Rhino, Team 3D (Brother Ray and Brother Devon) and Ron "The Truth" Killings

Jeff Jarrett, "The Monster" Abyss, America's Most Wanted, Father James Mitchell and Gail Kim came out as the two teams stood, locked in a staredown.

They played a music video running down the PPV as Impact came to an end.

Certainly a lot of emphasis has been placed on the "Return" of Sting, but will the events that occur at Destination X help salvage this angle? Sting's participation in TNA hasn't done too much for the company when you look at it. Sure, it gave them a short boost and his return may have some people interested, but the storyline as a whole has not lived up to its hype.
