Countdown to Destination X

On Sunday night, TNA will head to PPV once again for Destination X, with a card that can best be described as a mixed bag.
You've got what should be an entertaining main event, a couple multi-person, potential pier-sixers and a home-grown gimmick match. What more could you ask for?

MAIN EVENT: NWA HEAVYWEIGHT TITLE MATCH
Monty Brown vs. Christian Cage |
| |
SLAM! Predictions
Bob Kapur
These two have great chemistry on the mic, but I wonder whether their in-ring
styles are just too different to mesh into a great match. Christian hasn't had
the belt long enough to lose it already, but Monty shouldn't lose cleanly so
that he continues to look strong. Ergo, Christian wins by DQ.
Jon Waldman
Well, Christian goes over here, we know that; the big problem, however, is that
Jarrett will somehow get involved. Maybe he'll invoke his rematch clause after
Brown destroys Christian for a while? Quite possibly.
Greg Oliver
No question in my mind that Cage is going home with the belt. The question is
will they let Brown be strong in defeat or is the goal to establish legitimacy
to Cage's reign? I suspect it's a little of both. I sincerely hope (but doubt)
it'll be a clean finish without any interference. Jarrett will stick his nose
in somehow and it'll backfire.

X-DIVISION TITLE MATCH (Ultimate X)
Samoa Joe vs. AJ Styles vs. Christopher Daniels |
|
SLAM! Predictions
Bob Kapur
I've got goosebumps thinking about how good and violent this one could get.
This one won't be the typical Ultimate X match, in that Joe will keep a lot
of the action on the mat as opposed to a lot of high spots from the cables.
Daniels and Styles will take each other out, letting Joe keep his winning streak
going.
Jon Waldman
You have to figure Joe avoids the cables, yet somehow wins here. Maybe he introduces
a ladder to the mayhem? That's my guess. Joe retains here as the fans officially
turn on Styles.
Greg Oliver
I thought Joe would lose at the last PPV, so what do I know? I know it'll be
a good match, but not great. The Ultimate X rigging better be set up strong
to withstand Joe. I'll take Daniels to win. Technically Joe will still be unpinned
in TNA.

EIGHT MAN TAG TEAM TITLE MATCH
Abyss/Jeff Jarrett/AMW vs. Rhino/Team 3D/Ron Killings |
|
SLAM! Predictions
Bob Kapur
Haven't we seen this before? I like all of the players here, but these huge tag
matches are getting to be somewhat routine. Team Canada will interfere, Gail and
Jackie will have a catfight, and the whole thing will become a big schmozz before
Jarrett breaks out his guitar, but before he can get the win, Sting will take
him out and help the babyface team go over.
Jon Waldman
I guess this is somehow supposed to make me want to see Team 3D vs. AMW for the
titles already right? Wrong. Nor does it interest me to see Rhino/Abyss or Jarrett
against... well, any of them. Killings is a bit fresher to the main event ranks,
but don't forget that he's been an NWA champ. There's really no reason why some
actual fresh faces aren't getting elevated here, and even less reason why
a Team Canada member should not be in the mix.
Greg Oliver
It'll be an entertaining, overbooked mess. The bad guys will come out on top.
SLAM! Predictions
Bob Kapur
Lance Hoyt vs. Matt Bentley - Remember when Hoyt-a-mania was running wild?
What happened? Bentley wins.
James Gang/Bob Armstrong vs. LAX - Wouldn't a Bob Armstrong heel turn be hilarious,
especially if he came out on the next Impact all gangsta? James Gang wins.
Jon Waldman
Lance Hoyt vs. Matt Bentley - Honestly, this is looking boring to me. Sorry
guys.
James Gang/Bob Armstrong vs. LAX - Why? why god, why? This is such an obvious
turn that it doesn't even need to be seen on PPV - you could see it coming at
least a week ahead.
Greg Oliver
Lance Hoyt vs. Matt Bentley - Hoyt's climb up the roster begins again.
James Gang/Bob Armstrong vs. LAX - How could you not pick "The Bullet"?
