Smackdown: Mysterio's dream comes true
By ANDY McNAMARA - SLAM! Wrestling

No Way Out is over and the march to WrestleMania continues tonight in Richmond, Virginia for Smackdown. What will the fallout be from Randy Orton's shocking win over Rey Mysterio for the #1 Contender spot at Mania? Also, the Tag and Cruiserweight championships are both on the line tonight along with a surprise invasion! So sit back, grab some popcorn, and dive on into the report!

Randy Orton starts the program off by coming to the ring and bragging about how great he is. The Legend Killer goes on to gloat that he is part of the greatest wrestling family and is the best wrestler of his generation, including Eddie Guerrero. Out of nowhere, Chavo Guerrero jumps into the ring and lays a severe beat down on Orton from behind. Eventually the two are torn apart by security and Chavo is dragged out through the audience screaming that Randy forgot about him.

Match 1: Tag Team Championship- MNM (c) vs. Matt Hardy & Tatanka

Can someone explain to me how the pairing of Tatanka and Matt Hardy makes any sense at all? Coming off of their upset victory over the champions at No Way Out Tatanka and Hardy get their shot at tag team gold. The crowd in Richmond bellows for Hardy as he and Tatanka are taking it to the champions. After some assistance from Melina, MNM isolate the Native American and use every dirty trick in the book to keep control. Hardy goes for a Twist of Fate on Mercury, but Melina leaps in and grabs Matt's leg to prevent the finisher. The referee is distracted by Nitro, and this gives Mercury time to roll up Hardy with a handful of tights to retain the tag titles.

WINNERS: MNM

William Regal and Paul Burchill are in the dressing room with Regal trying to talk Burchill out of the pirate gimmick. In a poor segment Burchill gives Regal a bomb and lights a fuse that turns out to be a dud. Regal tries his best to act with the scene but even the English veteran can't save it.

The Eddie Guerrero Hall of Fame tribute video plays for the audience.

Match 2: Handicap Match- The Boogeyman vs. The Dicks

The former United States Champion Booker T and Sharmell saunter to the broadcast booth and look none too pleased. They are both shocked and frightened when The Boogeyman makes his appearance. Boogey dismantles both Dicks quickly and picks up the victory with a two handed choke slam. Boogeyman does his standard regurgitation of worms onto the hapless Dick. Booker and Sharmell high tail it out through the audience as The Boogeyman comes towards the pair. Much to the dismay of Michael Cole and Taz, Boogeyman pours a bag of worms onto the announce table.

WINNER: The Boogeyman

After the commercial Rey Mysterio is out to the ring to address the public. He starts by saying that he is glad Eddie is being inducted into the Hall of Fame and continues on describing how he lost the WrestleMania title shot to Randy Orton. Rey apologizes to all the people he let down for losing to Orton, including Eddie Guerrero. As Mysterio is about to leave, GM Teddy Long struts down the aisle and shows everyone the footage of how Orton cheated to win at No Way Out. Teddy said that he is going to add Rey to the main event at WrestleMania in a Triple Threat Match for the World Heavyweight Championship. Mysterio is ecstatic.

The interviewer Kristal is in the ring talking about the new Divas magazine. She is in a robe and is about to strip down when Jillian Hall interrupts and says that everyone wants to see JBL in the main event tonight, not to watch her disrobe. Kristal challenges Jillian to give the audience a sneak peak at her, and when she refuses Kristal slaps her and rips off Jillian's top. Kristal then does a strip tease, much to the joy of Tazz and the audience.

Match 3: Cruiserweight Championship- Gregory Helms (c) vs. Psicosis

The two cruiserweights try to figure each other out with Helms pounding away in the early going. Psicosis is trying to utilize an aerial attack game plan, while Helms is proving effective with the ground assault. I think if the cruiserweights were actually given some storylines then the matches would seem a lot less random. Helms sneaks out a win by grabbing the ropes for leverage.

WINNER: Gregory Helms

Highlights of Kurt Angle versus The Undertaker for the World Heavyweight Championship from No Way Out is shown. After the clip Teddy Long struts out and announces on the entrance ramp that next week on Smackdown the No Way Out main event rematch between Taker and Angle will occur.

Randy Orton is in the parking lot complaining to GM Long about adding Rey Mysterio to the WrestleMania main event.

Match 4: Main Event- Randy Orton, JBL, & Finlay vs. Chris Benoit, Bobby Lashley & Rey Mysterio

Orton and Mysterio start off this battle. After getting thrown around by Rey, Orton tags out quickly to Finlay. All six men eventually start brawling in the ring until the referee regains control of the match, leaving only Lashley and JBL to duke it out. Once Lashley tags out, the heels isolate Mysterio, and all members take a turn laying a beat down on Rey Rey. Mysterio is finally able to make the hot tag to Benoit with the Crippler chopping and suplexing all of his opponents. Mysterio gets back in after a few minutes and is able to gain the three count on Bradshaw after a top rope splash. Benoit, Lashley, and Mysterio celebrate the victory as the show goes off the air.

WINNERS: Chris Benoit, Bobby Lashley, & Rey Mysterio
