The Dead Man shocks Angle
With No Way out this Sunday Smackdown looks to close out the week strong in Norfolk, Virginia. Can Booker T continue to throw Chris Benoit off of his game before their U.S. title match at the pay-per-view? The big question of the evening is if the Undertaker and Kurt Angle can co-exist as a tag team tonight only days away from their huge World Heavyweight Championship main event. Well as usual these questions and more will be answered right about ... now!
Match 1: Rey Mysterio vs. Sylvain Grenier
Sylvain comes out and tells Rey how great he is before Mysterio attacks the Frenchman. Sylvain turns the tide after Rey misses a Bronco Buster, eventually slapping him in a bear hug. Mysterio becomes pumped up by Eddie chants and hits the 619 followed by Dropping the Dime for the pinfall. Randy Orton comes stands at the top of the ramp and tells Rey he will never main event WrestleMania and will never beat The Legend Killer.
WINNER: Rey Mysterio
Rey is shown walking in the back and runs into an intense Kurt Angle. The World Heavyweight Champion gives Mysterio a pep talk about beating Orton. Mark Henry and Davairi interrupt and The World's Strongest Man says he is going to take both The Undertaker and Angle out tonight.
Match 2: Orlando Jordan vs. The Boogeyman
In the ring is Orlando Jordan, who is complaining that he should be facing Booker T for the U.S. Title at No Way Out and not Chris Benoit. He claims that no one in the locker room can beat him when out comes ... The Boogeyman! After a brief flurry, Boogeyman Pump Handle Slams Jordan and picks up the 1-2-3 in a hurry. Boogey covers the hapless O.J. with worms after the bell.
WINNER: The Boogeyman
In the back Gregory Helms walks through all the cruiserweights and tells them to watch and learn from his championship up next.
Match 2: Cruiserweight Championship- Gregory Helms (c) vs. Scotty 2 Hotty
Scotty throws Helms off his game with some early hip tosses and a back suplex. The champ recovers and applies submissions on Scotty before Mr. Worm gets control back. Shortly after however, Helms nails the Shining Wizard out of nowhere to retain the title. Helms grabs the mic and tells all cruiserweights in the back that he can beat any cruiserweight anytime he wants. Then all the cruiserweights rush the ring and put the beat down on the champion, applying all of their finishers.
WINNER: Gregory Helms
After the commercial a banged up Gregory Helms is being iced down by a trainer. GM Teddy Long comes in and announces that Helms will get his revenge this Sunday at No Way Out when all the cruiserweights take on one another for the title.
Next, Paul Burchill and Ken Kennedy have a confrontation backstage where Kennedy says Burchill is a joke with his pirate gimmick. Burchill pulls a sword on Mr. Kennedy who changes his opinion about the gimmick in a hurry.
Match 3: Finlay & JBL vs. Chris Benoit & Bobby Lashley
Booker T and Sharmell are down at ringside once again on the broadcast team. Some extremely hard hitting going on from both sides with Benoit doing all the leg work for his tag pairing. In a cool spot JBL traps The Crippler in between the apron and the ring, allowing him to rain down punches. Lashley finally gets the hot tag and tears into Finlay until he meets a JBL boot to the face. After Benoit regains control of the match Booker becomes frustrated and nails the Wolverine with a chair in the back when the referee's back was turned. This gives Bradshaw the opening to deliver The Clothesline from Hell for the three count.
WINNERS: Finlay & JBL
Simon Dean is standing in the ring with the Gyminis insulting the Virginia crowd. Matt Hardy's music blares over the speakers to interrupt, and we are into the next contest.
Match 4: Matt Hardy vs. Simon Dean
After some early interference, official Charles Robinson ejects the Gyminis. Hardy and Dean exchange blows when Hardy hits a huge Twist of Fate and gains the victory. Not too much to this match, although it is nice to see Hardy pick up the win.
WINNER: Matt Hardy
Match 5: Main Event Handicap Match- MNM & Mark Henry w/Davairi vs. Kurt Angle & The Undertaker
Angle and Undertaker work together to clear the ring and then begin talking trash to each other. Henry capitalizes on the distraction, double clotheslining Taker and Angle from behind to the outside. Nitro is now in control and is wearing down the Olympic Gold Medalist. Undertaker was about to go for a choke slam on Nitro when Angle blind tags himself in. The World Heavyweight Champion then locks in the Ankle Lock on Nitro for the tap out. Following the bell, Taker shocks Angle by choke slamming and then delivering a Tombstone to Mark Henry. The champ and The Dead Man end the program with a stare down.
WINNERS: Kurt Angle & The Undertaker
