On the eve of Against All Odds, Impact comes to us with a "Monster" of a Main Event. On one side of the ring, Monty Brown and Abyss, on the other side, Ron Killings and Rhino.
Also in action, Team 3D, Samoa Joe and Jay Lethal, plus the finals in the Number
One ContendersTag Team Tournament. On to this edition of Impact!
The usual recap gets us underway, sending us
right into the opening match...
Match One - FINALS OF THE NUMBER ONE
CONTENDERS TAG TEAM TOURNAMENT - Austin Aries and Roderick Strong vs. Chris
Sabin and Sonjay Dutt
TNA Commissioner Larry Zybysko came out to
provide color commentary on this match. Don West asked him about the
controversial call he made in the Raven/Sean Waltman match, where he
seemingly ignored Raven's foot on the bottom rope. Zybysko didn't take the
questioning kindly and asked West what he was talking about. He then went on to
say that he had plenty of experience and knew what he was doing. Sonjay Dutt
took the offence to Aries and Strong, keeping both men on the defensive. Aries
came back though, before Sabin got the hot tag and cleaned house. Sabin landed
several dropkicks, but did some damage to his ankle when he dove into the corner
on Aries. He was able to finish the match, winning it with a Cradle
Shock.
Winners Via Pinfall and NEW NUMBER ONE
CONTENDERS TO THE NWA WORLD TAG TEAM CHAMPIONSHIPS - Chris Sabin and Sonjay
Dutt
Next up, they played a video package on Christian
Cage. Cage said that he was going to walk out of Against All Odds the new NWA
World Heavyweight Champion, and that if he can't get the job done, then Jeff
Jarrett was right about him being nothing more than a mid-card wrestler. Should
be a great match and a big opportunity for Cage.
In the back, there was an important meeting
taking place concerning the World Heavyweight Championship match at Against All
Odds.
In the promo area, Terry Taylor stood by with
Cassidy Riley. Taylor asked Riley if he has spoken to Raven since he was fired
from TNA. Riley said that he hasn't been able to get in touch with Raven, when
he was interrupted by Jackie Gayda, who went on to talk about needing her
demands met. Then in popped Team Canada's Coach Scott D'Amore. D'Amore told her
that the demands would be met, they just needed more time. Gayda gave him one
more week as Alex Shelley popped in to give D'Amore a tape on Gayda since he has
been following her. Not sure if anyone cares about this angle at all, but
whatever.
Match Two - Team 3D (Brother Ray and
Brother Devon) vs. The Diamonds in the Rough ("Primetime" Elix Skipper and David
Young) w/ Simon Diamond
The match got started with Team 3D taking it to
Skipper and Young. Out of nowhere, AMW's music played and out they came with
Gail Kim. Team 3D grabbed a mic as well and forgot about the match, as both
teams proceeded to jabber on about each other. Team 3D went on to say that they
would eventually capture the NWA World Tag Team Championship. From behind, Team
Canada ambushed them and the match was officially thrown out.
Winners - NO
CONTEST
After the match, Brother Ray got a table to put
Petey Williams through, but instead it was he who got put through it. Devon
attempted to fight off the other members of Team Canada by himself, but was hit
in the head with the Tag Team of the Year plaque and left a bloody mess, as Team
Canada celebrated.
Match Three - TRIPLE THREAT MATCH -
"The Samoan Submission Machine" Samoa Joe vs. Jay Lethal vs. Jason
Prince
Lethal and Prince attempted to double team Joe,
but that didn't get them very far, as Joe shrugged both men off, before
delivering a Muscle Buster on Prince and a rear naked choke for the submission
victory. After the match Joe refused to listen to the referee's commands to
break the rear naked choke on Prince, waiting to break it on his
own terms.
Winner Via Submission - "The Samoan
Submission Machine" Samoa Joe
Next up was a video package on Jeff Jarrett, who
talked about Christian Cage, saying that the only reason Cage is getting a title
shot is because Sting left. Jarrett continued to berate Cage and assured victory
for himself at Against All Odds.
Match Four - "The Alpha Male" Monty Brown
and "The Monster" Abyss w/ Father James Mitchell vs. "The War Machine" Rhino and
Ron "The Truth" Killings
Brown is on a tear, demanding that he face the
winner of the Jarrett/Cage match at Against All Odds for the NWA World
Heavyweight Championship. This was another hard hitting contest between Rhino
and Abyss, showing once again that these two are heavy hitters. Killings stepped
his game up a bit, taking it to Abyss and keeping the big man from building any
steam. Once Rhino got the tag, it was all over for Abyss, as the two men went
over the top rope and to the floors and proceeded to brawl out of the Impact
Zone. In the ring it was down to Killings and Brown. Konnan made his way to
ringside to try and recruit Killings, but instead distracted him as Brown lined
up and finished him off with the POOOOOOOOOOOUNNNNNNNNNNCCEEEEEEE! Period. After
the match Konnan continued to try and recruit Killings, but he wanted none of
it.
Winners Via Pinfall - "The Alpha Male"
Monty Brown and "The Monster" Abyss
We then shot straight to the back, where
Christian Cage was leaving the meeting. He was on his cell phone and said that
he always keeps his promises and that the Special referee situation at Against
All Odds was taken care of. He went on to say that he was going to walk out of
Against All Odds the new NWA World Heavyweight Champion.
Remember that whole Sting will be back thing?
Regardless, Cage as Champion would be a positive move for the company. He has
the talent, the ability and the charisma, no pun intended, to lead TNA to bigger
and better things. But with all the different storylines intersecting one
another, who knows what could possibly happen?
