TNA fans love Samoa Joe's character

Samoa Joe has, for a couple of years, been one of the unsung heroes of wrestling.

A great in-ring worker, he was a show-stopper outside of the mainstream with Ring of Honor before signing with TNA.

And now that TNA's going prime time on Spike TV -- beginning April 13, TNA's Impact will be shown each Thursday at 9 p.m. -- we're going to see a lot more Samoa Joe, and that's a good thing.

The current TNA X Division champ, Joe (real name Joe Seannoa), will face A.J. Styles and "The Fallen Angel" Christopher Daniels in a three-way match at tonight's Against All Odds pay-per-view.

"You've got A.J. Styles who, I guess, is Mr. TNA, according to online polls and fans. You have Christopher Daniels, who claims he's Mr. TNA. Then you have me, who just likes to go beat people up. It's kind of a nice demographic that works between us three, and I think the fans are in store for something quite spectacular," said Joe in a conference call earlier this week.

While Joe may not be a high flyer and he's not the bodybuilder type, he's an intimidating physical package.

"Anybody who's ever seen me wrestle, seen what I do in the ring, it's a very a physical style," he said. "I'm not very cute or pretty about things. I'm more of a, instead of a backflip on you, I'm just going to sock you in the face."

There were plenty of rumblings that Joe was unhappy with his TNA contract, rumblings he admits were accurate.

"We're still in the process of hammering out the details," he said. "But I'm not really upset about anybody else making a large sum of money."

Joe can't put his finger on his popularity, not when he goes out of his way to maintain a heelish character.

"I've been tremendously fortunate they've taken to me," he said.

While Joe was courted by WWE, he felt TNA was the place to go.

"We had talks ... I weighed my options," he said. "This was just the best opportunity for me."
