Impact: Plenty of Christmas treats
CHRIS SOKOL - SLAM! Wrestling
'Tis the season to be jolly, right? Well, at least I thought so, but it seems Jeff Jarrett missed the memo. With the apparent arrival of Sting drawing near, Impact comes to us on the eve of Christmas with a blockbuster main event and even a few presents along the way. Were TNA fans naughty or nice this year? Read the report and find out!
First things first, we are shown a recap of last week's activities, including the formation of the updated Jarrett alliance.
Bentley Claus and his little...or shall I say, big helper, Tracy Brooks made their way down to the ring with a
sack full of presents. Before they could say anything, "Captain Charisma" Christain Cage made his to the ring. He asked Bentley Claus for everything he needed to become a champion. In return, he received a pair of white pants, a "Don't Piss Me Off" T-shirt, a blonde wig and a pair of yellow sunglasses, complimented with a mini guitar. After a Jarrett esq. strut, the NWA Champion
had seen enough. He and "The Alpha Male" Monty Brown proceeded to charge the ring and serve up a cold dish of punishment to the charismatic one. After ducking a double clothesline attempt, Cage did another strut and bailed out of the ring as the lights flickered and the scorpion image played across the screens.
In the promo area, "The Franchise" Shane Douglas stood by with the returning "Fallen Angel" Christopher Daniels. Daniels informed Samoa Joe that there was nothing he could do to hurt him, and that he would end his aura of invincibility. Excellent promo, another one of Daniels' strong points.
Match One - "Showtime" Eric Young w/ Coach Scott D'Amore vs "The Fallen Angel" Christopher Daniels
Alex Shelly made his way out to ringside to test his hand at filming the match, while "The Prince of Punk" Shannon Moore again popped up on top of some Impact scenery. This match was primarily Daniels, with Young getting in a few cheap shots. Head of security, Don Harris eventually came out to eject Moore from the arena...again. A running enseguri, BME and Angel Wings was enough to overcome the D'Amore interference and secure a victory for Daniels.
Winner Via Pinfall - "The Fallen
Angel" Christopher Daniels
Morphoplex Move of the Night - The Angel Wings
"The Franchise" Shane Douglas once again stood by with mic in hand, this time with "Bullet" Bob Armstrong and Kip and BG James. "Bullet" Bob said how determined he was to rebuild the 4 Live Kru, despite all parties being uninterested in doing so. He told BG and Kip to relax because he was going to talk to "The Truth."
Match Two - "The Monster" Abyss w/
Father James Mitchell vs Chris Sabin
In the early stages Abyss just shrugged off the much smaller Sabin. Dave Hebner came down the ramp with a clipboard in hand, taking notes on the match. Sabin used the ropes to help mount and offense and take the big man off his feet, however when the fight spilled to the floor,
Sabin found his head firmly smacked against the steel steps. Sabin was able to come back again with a springboard dropkick and spinning DDT, but after going to the well once to often, he sprungboard himself into a vicious Black Hole Slam.
Winner Via Pinfall - "The Monster"
We then shot over to a video package entitled "Global Impact." We are shown a recap of the recent TNA India Tour,
where Simon Diamond, Shark Boy and Sonjay Dutt appeared on a series of sold out events. Next week TNA will recap their Australia Tour with Jeff Jarrett and Gail Kim.
Match Three - Kenny King vs Ron
"The Truth" Killings
King jumped Killings before the bell and paid heavily for it. A missle dropkick took King off his feet. Killings followed up with a Leg Lariat and a face slam, before finishing King off with an Axe Kick.
Winner Via Pinfall - Ron "The Truth" Killings
After the match "Bullet" Bob Armstrong came out to talk to "The Truth," but Killings once again reminded him that he
was done with the Kru.
A video package highlighting the Raven/Larry Zybysko feud was shown. Decently played out feud, hopefully the big match will live up to its hype.
Match Four - "Wildcat" Chris
Harris w/ "The Tennessee Cowboy" James Storm and Gail Kim vs "Captain Charisma"
Before things really got underway, Storm got himself ejected from ringside. From there Christian got the upperhand, tossing Harris all over the six sided ring. Gail Kim got involved, tripping up the "Captain," leading to Harris' first offense flurry. Harris pulled off an incredible high vertical suplex, before giving up the advantage on a high risk, double sledge attempt. Several near falls commenced before James Storm came back down to crack Christian in the head with one half of the tag team titles. After a few reversals, Harris was sent head first into the nether-regions of his
interfering partner and put away with an Un-Prettier.
Winner Via Pinfall - "Captain
Charisma" Christian Cage
Post-match action saw Jeff Jarrett make his way back to the ring. He pounded on Cage until Cage was able to slip out and head up the ramp. From behind Monty Brown returned, hitting Cage with a clubbing blow. The heels reigned supreme, destroying Cage and finishing him off with the POOOOOOOOOUNNNNNNNCEEE! Period.
A nice gift from TNA, plenty of debuting talent, a solid list of contenders for the Heavyweight and X Division titles, some decent feuds and of course another great edition of Impact.
Be sure to tune into SLAM! Wrestling for the very special coverage of both New Year's Eve episodes, Happy Holidays!
Chris Sokol is from Long Island, NY and wants a pair of white pants. Although he's not quite sure what else to
wear with them. Send your fashion tips to CJS137@aol.com --he could sure use them.
