Orton used to running with big dogs
By TIM BAINES - Ottawa Sun

Randy Orton grew up with wrestling superstars like Hulk Hogan, Greg "The Hammer" Valentine, Andre the Giant, Don Muraco and Rowdy Roddy Piper in the family kitchen.

All buddies of his dad, Cowboy Bob Orton -- a legend in his own right.

So he's not awestruck being around today's wrestling stars. And he's getting a chance to hang around his dad again, with Cowboy Bob acting as a sidekick of sorts these days -- even though the two have a lot of different tastes.

"He's my dad ... and I love him, but I don't think we were made to ride together," says Randy. "He's 56 and I'm 25.

"There are pretty big differences. He listens to classic rock ... Led Zeppelin ... and I'll listen to Pantera or maybe some rap music."

Despite a fear of spiders, he's not really that afraid of stepping into the ring in a Hell in a Cell match against The Undertaker at tonight's WWE Armageddon pay-per-view.

In fact, all of The Undertaker's spooky shenanigans aside, Orton likes working with The Deadman.

"The Undertaker knows what he's doing," says Orton. "He's captivating ... the whole time he's been doing this, he's been over (with the fans).

"I really am not superstitious, but I hate spiders. I hope The Undertaker doesn't bring a sack of tarantulas."

Orton has his eyes on the champ, Batista.

"We were in Evolution together. I know who deserves that title more ... and it's me."

Bobby Lashley vs. William Regal and Paul Burchill could also happen.

    - Wow! TNA just keeps on delivering superb pay-per-views. Here are the results from Turning Point: Sabu won an unbelievable Barbed Wire Massacre match against Abyss; Matt Bently and Austin Aries beat Alex Shelley and Roderick Strong; Raven beat Chris K (Chris Kanyon); Team Canada beat 4 Live Kru, which was betrayed by Konnan; Chris Sabin, Sonjay Dutt and Dale Torborg (with help from Chicago White Sox catcher A.J. Pierzynski and free-agent outfielder Johnny Damon) beat Diamonds in the Rough; Christian Cage beat Monty Brown; Team 3D beat America's Most Wanted in a non-title match; Samoa Joe won the coveted X Division championship off AJ Styles; and Jeff Jarrett beat Rhino. Jeff Hardy was a no-show.

The show closed with images of a scorpion ... spotlights shining on a steel chair in the middle of the ring with a leather jacket, boots and black baseball bat. Yep, Sting is on his way back.

    - Dave Meltzer's informative wrestlingobserver.com reports that WWE was the seventh most searched term on the web in 2005, behind Paris Hilton, Pamela Anderson, Britney Spears, Poker, Dragonball and Jennifer Lopez. Candice Michelle and John Cena were listed as the Nos. 4 and 5 most searched sports stars, behind Anna Kournikova, Serena Williams and Maria Sharapova.

    - RAW on TSN will start a bit later on Dec. 26 and Jan. 2, thanks to World Junior Hockey Championship games from Vancouver.

    - CPW will hold Hell for the Holidays on Dec. 27, at 7 pm at the St-Jean-Bosco school (71 St-Jean-Bosco St.) in Hull. The main event is a triple threat match for the CPW heavyweight title with Paranoid Jake Matthews vs. Tray Hugh Mongus vs. Thunder; Wild Dangerous Dan will face Guy Sauriol in a chain match; MVP Michael Von Payton and Dave Titan will face Aftershock; The Freak Zakk Manson vs. five cruiserweight contenders in a Gauntlet match; and Moonlight vs. a mystery newcomer. Also appearing: The Twin Terrors, Simply Irresistible Max Alexander, Wild Ace, Pierre Khoury, Frank "The Beast" Bradley and Velvet Jones. CBC cameras will also be on hand to film footage -- with clips included in an On the Road Again episode in late February.

    - In his syndicated column, Alex Marvez talks to Hulk Hogan, who says he wanted more matches with Shawn Michaels: "There was always room to have a Hogan vs. Michaels II and III, but Shawn went on TV and kind of made of fun our match and I didn't want to pursue working with him any more," said Hogan. "I think there's a lot of the old Shawn Michaels in the new Shawn Michaels."
