WWE set for PSP debut
By JON WALDMAN -- SLAM! Wrestling

WWE and THQ are headed back to the virtual ring, only this time, it's a handheld version of the squared circle.

Smackdown vs. Raw 2006 for PSP (Playstation Portable), as was announced in a press release, was shipped yesterday to North American retailers, just in time for the holiday season rush.

The release of SD vs. Raw '06 for PSP follows hot on the heels of the Playstation 2 version, which has been a top seller since it debuted in November.

"The success of WWE SmackDown vs. RAW 2006 continues with its launch on the PSP system," said Nelo Lucich, vice president of interactive, JAKKS Pacific in a release. "With a host of game play features, an impressive roster of Superstars and exclusive content, WWE SmackDown vs. RAW 2006 is one of the most comprehensive titles offered for the PSP system and lets fans experience WWE video games in an exciting new way."

The PSP version of Smackdown vs. Raw includes all of the features found on the PS2 disc, including the new stamina/momentum meters, the Buried Alive match and the "Backstage Brawl" area among others.

The handheld game, however, also includes some bonus features such as three exclusive mini games and the ability to play in a wireless environment with up to three other gamers. Additionally, the PSP and PS2 versions can sync with the PS2 game to transfer created wrestlers, and can unlock the Jake "The Snake" Roberts character, which can only be accessed with the use of both games.
