Countdown to Genesis
By

The big talk in advance of TNA Genesis is not who has been announced to show, but who has not.
For the last week, TNA has built their November PPV around the appearance of a freshly-signed individual. The cat seems to have already peeped out of its bag already, but we won't spoil the surprise just yet.
The PPV should end up being a really strong event, regardless of who the mystery personality is. There are some wicked bouts to be seen, and some intriguing storylines going into the event. Before this baby goes to sleep, we could end up having a major contender for PPV of the year.
As always, the SLAM! Wrestling crew has assembled to offer their opinions on the card. Why? Because that's how we roll.

SIX MAN TAG MATCH
Jeff Jarrett/America's Most Wanted vs. Team 3-D/Rhino
|
|
|
SLAM! Predictions
Bob Kapur
As the NWA Heavyweight belt isn't even being defended at this PPV, would it
have really made a difference if Rhino had held it longer than four days? Being
that there's no gold on the line, I can see them letting Team 3-D and Rhino
get some revenge for the beatings they've received for the last few weeks. They
win, but it doesn't mean anything.
Chris Sokol
Doesn't TNA realize that a Heavyweight championship should be defended on PPVs?
I mean this is at least the second time this year that the Heavyweight title
will not be defended on PPV. Granted this should be a decent match, but I think
a Heavyweight title encounter would be more special. Christian will make his
debut and align himself with Jarrett and AMW.
Ed Ludwig
Redemption for Rhino and Team 3D. A loss to Jeff Jarrett and AMW this early
upon the arrival of the newcomers would kill any early momentum. Rhino and Team
3D will prevail.
Greg Oliver
Well, if the heels have all the belts, then this is a no-brainer. The
good guys go over to establish further credibility for their chase of the titles.
It should be a pretty decent match too, if they can resist the urge just to
let 'em brawl.

X-DIVISION TITLE MATCH
Petey Williams vs. AJ Styles
|
|
SLAM! Predictions
Bob Kapur
Not to take away from all of the great wrestlers there, but AJ should be in
the top tier, contending for the World belt instead of the X-Division. I can
see Christian making his debut here, and help Petey win the gold. It would set
up a great feud between he and Styles, and instantly move guys like Sonjay Dutt
and Austin Aries into the X title hunt where, unfortunately, they can't be with someone like
Styles in the top spot.
Chris Sokol
Good combination of talent, but this match has been used repeatedly in TNA.
With all the new talent that has entered, please set up some different matches.
Styles wins this one and propels himself into a feud with Samoa Joe.
Ed Ludwig
AJ Styles vs. Petey Williams has the potential to be a great feud and expect
this to be first of hopefully many great matches between these two athletically
gifted athletes. Williams will capture the title and continue his rise to the
top.
Greg Oliver
Styles retains, but it'll be a barnburner of a match. It wouldn't surprise me
to see someone interfere on Styles' behalf (like Chris Sabin) to counteract
Team Canada's presence.

ELIMINATION X MATCH
Christopher Daniels/Samoa Joe/Alex Shelley/Roderick Strong
vs.
Chris Sabin/Matt Bentley/Sonjay Dutt/Austin Aries
|
|
SLAM! Predictions
Bob Kapur
This one could go either way: it could be one of the most kinetic, exciting
matches you've ever seen; or it could be a complete spot-filled train wreck.
I'm leaning towards the former, and I think the interplay between Joe and Daniels
will be the foundation for that. I really like what Dutt has been doing lately,
so wouldn't mind if he won. But Joe's a juggernaut, and I think he'll take it.
Chris Sokol
This will be the usual spotfest of the night. Should be entertaining and a great
way to showcase some of the talent that has built TNA up over the past three
and half years. Samoa Joe will outlast the competition, setting up an X-Division
title match between him and Styles.
Ed Ludwig
Samoa Joe has been on a roll and there is no reason why the build up should
stop here. Let's hope we get to see more in-ring action then we saw in his match
with Jushin Liger at the Bound For Glory PPV.
Greg Oliver
Talk about overkill. With just about every one of these guys, I'd love to see
them go one-on-one (again). Yet here they all get mushed into one meaningless
match just to get PPV exposure and a PPV payday. Samoa Joe or Christopher Daniels
will continue their slow build to a feud, which will likely mean both helping
to eliminate the other. I'll pick Sonjay Dutt to come out on top.
SLAM! Predictions
Bob Kapur
Abyss vs. Sabu - This won't be for the faint at heart. Both met get hurt,
but Abyss comes out on top.
Jeff Hardy vs. Monty Brown - Monty is TNA's "People's Champion",
and they should be pushing him right to the top very soon. His first step is
beating Hardy at Genesis.
3 Live Kru vs. Team Canada - Enough is enough already. Either have Kip James
screw the Kru already, or stop dragging it out. Regardless, 3LK beats Team Canada.
Chris Sokol
Abyss vs. Sabu - Brutal. Abyss wins.
Jeff Hardy vs. Monty Brown - Hardy will fall victim to the Pounce! Period.
3 Live Kru vs. Team Canada - Again? Kru wins I suppose.
Ed Ludwig
Abyss vs. Sabu - Abyss over Sabu in a squash. Sabu will have his moments
early but father time has caught up to him.
Jeff Hardy vs. Monty Brown - Jeff Hardy over Monty Brown. The Alpha Male's
climb to number one contender status will have to wait a little longer as the
Charismatic Enigma will come out on top.
3 Live Kru vs. Team Canada - Dissention in the ranks for 3 Live Kru will
hit the boiling point and enable Team Canada to score the victory.
Greg Oliver
Abyss vs. Sabu - Hard to picture either laying down. I'll pick Abyss.
Jeff Hardy vs. Monty Brown - It's all about the Brown.
3 Live Kru vs. Team Canada - A storyline match, depending on Kip James.
He ain't gonna help Team Canada, so the Kru wins.
