Raw: Cena taps out?
By DALE PLUMMER -- SLAM! Wrestling
Taboo Tuesday is just about a week a away, and the voting commences tonight. Coach is still in the lead announce seat as Monday Night RAW comes to us from Fresno, California.
Shawn Michaels kicks off the show, and it's for a match. An actual match is starting off RAW. I can't remember the last time a match kicked off RAW; can we get the SLAM! archivist to look into this?
Match # 1 -- Shawn Michaels vs. Big Show vs. Kane
The three men are the fans' choice to go into the three-way main event of Taboo Tuesday to face John Cena and Kurt Angle. Kane and Michaels immediately double team Show, who rebuffs their attack. The crafty HBK then tries to steal a pin from under Show's nose, but to no avail. Show slaps HBK into the corner, and then turns his attention to Kane. The Big Red Machine is in trouble, but Michaels saves him from a choke slam with a chop block on Show. Kane and HBK puts the boots to Show, and drive him from the ring. Kane hits Michaels with a side slam, and follows with an elbow. Show pulls Kane from the ring. Show lifts HBK over his head, and tosses him onto Kane on the floor below. After the break, Kane and Big Show face off in the ring. Show nails a scoop slam, but HBK breaks up the pin. Kane tosses Michaels from the ring, and then sorta hits a suplex on Show. Kane climbs the turnbuckle, but Show recovers, and catches Kane. Show continues up the turnbuckle, and nails a superplex. HBK re-enters the ring to hit Show with Sweet Chin Music, but is then leveled by Kane. Kane rolls out of the ring, and starts tossing chairs into the ring. As the ref tries to clear the ring, Kane clocks Show with a chair. HBK hits Sweet Chin Music on Kane, and the Show, again. Michaels covers Show and gets the win.
Winner via pinfall: Shawn Micheals
We swing to the announce position, where King decides to take a quick poll. The crowd lets King know that they don't like Coach as the lead announcer. He then asks them what type of match should Coach face Stone Cold in at Taboo Tuesday. Coach decides he has had enough, and heads to the ring. Coach calls out Austin, and the glass breaks after a two count. Stone Cold's truck speeds to the ring, and the door opens, to reveal Stephanie McMahon. The whole thing was a set up. Steph berates Austin, when Mick Foley's music hits. Steph calls out Carlito, and hits Mick with a low blow. Carlito beats on Foley, and the spits apple in his face.
After the break, Eric Bischoff tells Foley that he is still refereeing tonight's main event.
Match # 2 -- Triple H vs. Viscera
Ric Flair jumps Trips on the ramp, and fights him to ringside. Several officials try to break up the fight, only to get laid out for their effort. Flair gets in some good shots before the two are finally separated. Triple H heads to the back, and the match never happens.
Ric Flair grabs a mike and begs the crowd and those of us watching at home to vote for the cage match at Taboo Tuesday. (Come on Ric, the obvious choose is a submission match. Does Triple H even know any submission finishers?)
A limo is shown in the parking lot. It has horns on it, and a bug JBL logo on the side, so ... do the math.
After the break, Bischoff confronts JBL outside. If you missed Smackdown, read the report here. Anyway, Edge is in the ring with Lita, and Chris Masters. He tells JBL that he speared Rey Mysterio on Friday because Rey is the star, not JBL. Edge then runs down whom the fans can vote for them to face at Taboo Tuesday. The fans will choose two opponents from Rey Mysterio, JBL, Christian, Matt Hardy, or Hardcore Holly to face Edge and Masters. JBL challenges Masters to put the Masterlock on him. Masters runs to the parking lot, where JBL tells him he just fell for the oldest trick in the book. Back in the arena, Mysterio suprises Edge with a drop kick, and then drops Lita into the ropes, and hits her with the 619. (There's a joke here, but this is a family website.)
Match #3 -- Mickey James w/ Trish Stratus and Ashley vs. Victoria w/ Candice Michelle and Torrie Wilson
Mickey James pins Victoria with a roll up, after getting some help from Trish.
Winner via pin fall: Mickey James
Vince McMahon heads to the ring. He tells the crowd that he doesn't like us second-guessing him, and JR is still fired, and Coach is still on play-by-play. Vince does say that JR's surgery was a success, and we have footage. Vince has decided to pay doctor, making fun of the surgery in a very classless and tasteless video. It was a ten-minute joke that went 9 and a half minutes too long. He then tells us that we all have our craniums up our posteriors. (Well, I'm paraphrasing, and taking the high road.)
Match #4 -- Lance Cade and Trevor Murdoch vs. Hurricane and Rosey
WWE is really pushing the Internet broadcast by starting a story line during the commercial break. Last week, after Kurt Angle beat down Hurricane, Rosey came out to help. Hurricane turned on him, and ripped off his mask. Rosey comes out alone, looking for Hurricane, who doesn't show. Rosey takes on the tag team champs by himself. Gregory Helms, Hurricane's alter ego, walks out on stage in street clothes. Rosey pleads for help from Helms, but doesn't get it. Kane and Murdoch finish Rosey off with the Sweet 'N' Sour.
Winner via pin fall: Lance Cade and Trevor Murdoch
Match #5 -- Kurt Angle vs. John Cena -- Special Referee- Mick Foley
Angle tries to keep the wrestling on the mat, but two shoulder blocks later, Angle is outside the ring. After the break, Angle is in the ring, but Cena is down on the outside. Cena rolls back in, only to be suplexed. Angle slaps on a body scissors, and follows with two belly-to-belly suplexes. After a near fall, Angle confronts Foley, and Cena almost steals a win with a roll up. Angle responds with a German suplex. Cena fights back with a DDT. Angle and Cena go toe-to-toe trading punches. Cena gains the advantage with a clothesline and a fisherman suplex. Carlito runs in and attacks Foley, knocking him out of the ring. Foley is tossed into the step and is out. Inside the ring, Cena hits the 5-knuckle shuffle, as Bischoff runs to the ring in referee gear. Angle counters the F-U, and almost scores a pin with quick counts from the GM. Angle slaps on the ankle lock. Cena reaches for the ropes, but Bischoff grabs his arm, slamming his hand to the mat. Bisch calls for the bell saying Cena tapped out. Angle finally breaks the hold as the show ends.
Winner via submission: Kurt Angle

voting for Taboo Tuesday, just ask yourself "What
would Vince do?" and then do the opposite. Dale is
