TNA Impact! is Bound for Glory
By CHRIS SOKOL - SLAM! Wrestling
TNA Impact has been hotter than ever since its move to Spike TV. This week appears to be no different, as we are promised the funeral of Team 3D, an X Division Gauntlet, Rhino vs Sabu and much more. Just as TNA promised, less talk, more action. We are on the road to Bound For Glory, full speed ahead!
The show began with a quick recap of the destruction of Team 3D. That segment also featured the TNA debut of Gail Kim, a great opponent for Traci Brooks down the line.
Match One - Handicap Match - "The Alpha Male" Monty Brown vs Mikey Batts and Jerelle Clarke
Post match, Brown grabbed a mic and said that nobody was going to stop him on his quest to become the NWA World Heavyweight Champion. This prompted Lance Hoyt to make his way to the ring and grab the mic. Hoyt kept it plain and simple, telling Brown that after Bound For Glory he would not forget the name Hoyt. In the backstage area "The Franchise" Shane Douglas caught up with "The Living Legend" Larry Zybysko, who made the announcement that on next week's Impact, for the first time ever, the NWA World Tag Team Championship would be defended on Spike TV as The Naturals will go one-on-one with America's Most Wanted. During this promo, Raven jumped in and began yelling at Zybysko, security kept him at bay and for the third week in a row, threw him out of the building. A video package aired hyping the upcoming Jushin "Thunder" Liger vs Samoa Joe match at Bound For Glory on October 23. Don't miss it!
Match Two - David Young w/ Simon Diamond vs Matt Bentley w/ Traci Brooks After the match, "The Canadian Destroyer" Petey Williams came down and beat on Bentley. Traci stepped in after the beat down, only to get planted with a kiss and almost hit with The Canadian Destroyer. Chris Sabin made the save, sending Williams to the back. The three will meet at Bound For Glory in an Ultimate X Match to determine the Number One Contender to the TNA X Division Championship. A video package was shown, hyping "The Phenomenal" AJ Styles. Good way to continue introducing talent to new fans. Following that video package was another, this time hyping NWA World Tag Team Champions, The Naturals. We then joined Mike Tenay and Don West who pumped up next week's tag title bout. They then played a video sent to them by "The King of the Mountain" Jeff Jarrett and company, showing the funeral of Team 3D. Team Canada, Abyss, James Mitchell, America's Most Wanted and Gail Kim gathered with Jarrett in a mock funeral, poking fun at the career of Team 3D. Mitchell informed the group that they had to meet back up at that same funeral home the day after Bound For Glory for the burial of Kevin Nash. The group laughed as a drunk James Storm relieved himself in the casket. Funny segment.
Match Three- "The Suicidal, Homicidal, Genocidal" Sabu vs "The Man Beast" Rhino Post match, Jeff Hardy joined the mix and all four men brawled. It took the entire security squad to separate them, they will all meet in Monsters Ball 2 at Bound For Glory. Next, they hyped the Kevin Nash/Jeff Jarrett Bound For Glory match for the NWA World Heavyweight Championship. "The Huntington Beach Bad Boy" Tito Ortiz will be the Special Guest Referee for that match and it should be far from a doozy. Jarrett is talented, Nash has lost it. Match Four - The Christopher Daniels Ironman Challenge - "The Fallen Angel" Christopher Daniels
Opponent One - Shark Boy
Opponent Two - "The Original Playa From The Himalayas" Sonjay Dutt Daniels grabbed a mic and called out the third person Styles picked to be in the match.
Opponent Three - "The Phenomenal" AJ Styles Post match, Styles said that under normal circumstances he would chase down Daniels and beat him all over the arena, but he said he could wait till Bound For Glory, when he would have a whole 30 minutes to do so. Should be an incredible match. Fairly solid job yet again. TNA has undergone some transformation in the past couple of weeks. Going from producing mediocre Impacts to pretty good Impacts. They are certainly representing themselves well, and their ratings are reflecting that. For their time slot, they are doing very well. Fingers crossed, TNA will be given some bigger opportunities by Spike TV, they definitely deserve them.
