Smackdown: Amigos battle
ANDY MCNAMARA – SLAM! Wrestling
A good three to five minutes of the beginning of the show is recapping the Raw and Smackdown battle from Raw Homecoming on Monday. Looks like this could be building towards a Survivor Series showdown.
Teddy Long struts down to the ring with the slimy Palmer Canon at his side. Long announces the 6-man tag match that was to take place on Monday night will actually occur tonight. Teddy also challenges Raw to show up at No Mercy this Sunday. Orton Squared interrupts Long as they march to the ring. Randy says how he and his father are going to take apart the Undertaker at No Mercy. The Legend Killer continues on by saying that tonight he and his father are going to kill the legend of Roddy Piper. Bagpipes blare over the speakers and Piper clears the ring with a steel pipe.
Match 1: Booker T with Sharmel vs. Orlando Jordan
A rather uneventful match with Orlando wrestling like, well Orlando. Booker T picks up the win when Sharmell grabs Jorndan’s leg as he had Booker up for a suplex; causing Book to fall on top. Booker questions Sharmell after the match if she did anything to Jordan. Naturally, she denies it vehemently.
WINNER: Booker T
Ken Kennedy is the guest commentator for Bob Holly vs. Sylvain Grenier. Michael Cole announces that at No Mercy it’ll be Kennedy against Bob Holly. Why more Holly? I don’t get it, am I missing something? Are fans writing into WWE demanding more Holly?
Match 2: Bob Holly vs. Sylvain Grenier
Kennedy makes a funny reference to Holly’s past calling him “Sparkplug”. Holly’s shots look to be very stiff on poor Sylvain. The action spills to the outside and Holly shoves Kennedy. Holly calls for the Alabama Slam, when Kennedy nails Holly with the microphone as the referee’s back is turned. Grenier hits a suplex/DDT combination for the 1-2-3.
WINNER: Sylvain Grenier
Piper is interviewed in the back with Josh Mathews. Roddy is mumbling and rambling about how stupid Bob Orton Jr. is. Although you can’t always understand him, it is always good to see “Hot Rod”.
Match 3: LOD with Christy vs. William Regal and Paul Birchill
It looks like Heidenreich is ready for Halloween with his skeleton skull face paint. The upstart Burchill is working over Animal and to his credit, Animal is actually selling some moves! After a few minutes MNM jump over the guard rail and attack LOD causing a DQ victory for Animal and Heidenreich. Christy has the “Snap Shot” delivered to her and LOD rushes back to the ring with steel chairs.
WINNER: LOD (via DQ)
Eddie Guerrero walks down the aisle wearing a Batista t-shirt. As Eddie talks about how he and Big Dave will always be friends, Batista’s music hits and he shows the footage of Eddie hitting him with the chair last week. Big Dave gives Eddie a chair and turns his back to him, challenging Latino Heat to strike. Eddie’s feelings are hurt and in a humorous spot says he thought he had found his “soulmate” in Batista.
Match 4: Randy and Bob Orton vs. Rowdy Roddy Piper
If I could have one wish in this match it would be that Piper would put on pants instead of wearing the short tights…yikes! Piper swings the lead pipe clearing the ring. Hot Rod pounds away on Bob until a blind tag by Randy changes the tide. Undertaker’s gong is heard, distracting Bob Orton long enough so that Piper can roll him up and get the three count. After the match has ended druids bring a two-man casket down to ringside with dummies of Randy and Bob inside (very life like). The lights go out and Taker is in the ring when they come back up. The Ortons then scramble to safety.
WINNER: Rowdy Roddy Piper
Match 5: Bobby Lashley vs. Eddie Craven
Does anyone else smell squash? I am going to time this one and see how quickly the impressive Lashley dispenses of poor Craven. Simon Dean comes down with a cast on his hand, claiming that “Bob-o” broke it last week. Cole points out that Lashley was a former soldier. Lashley has Craven in a Fireman’s Carry and begins squatting Craven to intimidate Dean. Simon tries interfering before Lashley disposes of him and then delivers his nasty Flapjack-like maneuver to Craven for the win.
WINNER: Bobby Lashley
Match 6 - Main Event: Eddie Guerrero, Christian, and JBL vs. Rey Mysterio, Chris Benoit, and Batista
Benoit and Christian begin this packed main event with a hard, fast paced action. Some even better chain wrestling goes on when Eddie is tagged in. Batista blind tags in and Eddie looks to tag out but no one is willing. Eventually Mysterio comes into the fray and we have now seen the three combinations of matches that will take place at No Mercy. Eddie pulls the rope on teammate JBL, causing the ex-champ to fall over the top to the outside. Eddie then points out to Batista that Christian is going to attack from the top rope. Big Dave catches Christian and gives a nasty spinebuster for the pinfall. Eddie celebrates with the world champion as JBL and Christian come back in and jump the two “best friends”. Eventually Guerrero is being double teamed and Batista gets back up to make the save as the show goes off the air.
WINNERS: Rey Mysterio, Chris Benoit, and Batista
BIGGEST POP: Tie between Roddy Piper and Batista
MOST HEAT: Ken Kennedy
Smackdown tried its best to build up interest for No Mercy this Sunday, but with such a lackluster card this pay-per-view stands to draw a very poor buy rate.
