Smackdown: Guerrero-Batista continue strange team
By ANDY MCNAMARA - SLAM! Wrestling

Smackdown is in Laredo, Texas, which is pretty darn far south. Of course, that means JBL begins the program by coming down to the ring in a Mexican getup, complete with a donkey and tequila. He delivers a racially charged promo to the predominately Spanish crowd.

Match 1: JBL and Ken Kennedy vs. Rey Mysterio and Hardcore Holly

The crowd naturally blows the roof off with a giant pop for Mysterio. Why is Holly getting air time when there are so many other worthy wrestlers (ex. Paul London, Mexicools, etc.)?

Kennedy is starting to grow on me with his natural charisma and developing wrestling ability. JBL and Mysterio are getting a lot of ring time together, and are doing the classic big man/little man match with Mysterio flying all over the place.

After Holly is distracted by Kennedy, JBL hits the Clothesline from Hell for the pinfall.

WINNER: JBL and Ken Kennedy

Following the match a recap of the Eddie and Batista angle, with match highlights from last week against MNM are shown.

Eddie is eating backstage when Batista and he discuss tonight's tag team championship match against the new LOD. Batista takes away Eddie's Mexican food and starts to eat it, stating it is not good for Eddie's stomach.

Melina and Christy then have a confrontation in the parking lot as Christy rides in on a motorcycle and Melina breaks a nail. Oh the drama!

Match 2: Melina vs. Christy

I will have to agree with Taz, Melina really does have the best entrance in wrestling. This is your typical sloppy women's match from two divas who have no business being in the ring. To their credit, both women are working very hard, and Christy has improved. Nitro slugs Christy from the outside when the referee is distracted, allowing Melina to pick up the three. MNM are about to pummel Christy when LOD run down for the save. The WWE really does need more tag teams in the division to avoid repetitive feuds like this one.

WINNER: Melina

A recap of the recent events in the Randy Orton/Undertaker feud are shown

Match 3: "Cowboy" Bob Orton vs. The Undertaker

Orton high tails it early and is able to get some shots in before Taker takes over. A ref bump happens early on and after an Orton low blow the Legend Killer speeds down the ramp and father and son pound away on the Dead Man. After Randy tries to save his dad, Taker delivers the tombstone on Bob and gets the victory.

WINNER: The Undertaker

A run down of the No Mercy card is revealed.

Match 4: Bobby Lashley vs. Russel Simpson

A video package plays of three time NCAA amateur wrestling champion Lashley captures his debut victory over Simon Dean. Lashley is showing some impressive power and speed for a 300 pounder. Basic squash match with Lashley winning with a form of a flap jack. Simon Dean comes out after the bout announcing his and Lashley's match at No Mercy. Dean attacks and Lashley gorilla presses him to the outside.

WINNER: Bobby Lashley

Christian and the Peep Show are set up in the ring. Christian challenges Chris Benoit for the U.S. title when Booker T and Sharmella interrupt. Am I alone in finding Sharmella incredibly annoying? Then the tap out king Orlando Jordan comes to the ring, saying that he deserves a title shot at Benoit. Teddy Long finally struts out and says that Benoit gets to pick his opponent for No Mercy. Long announces a triple threat match for the athletes to showcase themselves to Benoit.

Match 5: Orlando Jordan vs. Booker T vs. Christian

A nice powerbomb/suplex from all three men off the top rope is executed in the early going. Christian is slingshotted over the top, while Orlando rolls up Booker T with a handful of tights. This was a really short match for a triple threat.

Benoit walks down the aisle and is cutting a great promo. He is trying to decide who to fight, and ends up making a Fatal-4-Way for the U.S. title at No Mercy.

WINNER: Orlando Jordan

Teddy Long, Palmer Cannon, and Vince McMahon discuss in Long's office, who will appear from Smackdown! at WWE Homecoming. Teddy will surprise us with his Smackdown! match on RAW.

Match 6: Eddie and Batista vs. Animal and Heidenrich (LOD)

Eddie starts things off with Heidenrich. Eddie does a great job selling. In a nice spot Eddie counters the Doomsay Device with a hurrancarrana on Animal, knocking him into Heindenrich. Batista struggles to hit the Batista Bomb on Heindnenrich, and Animal makes the save at a 2.5 count.

Suddenly MNM hit the ring with a chair, attacking the tag team champions. Chaos soon ensues so that everyone is brawling. Eddie "accidentally" smacks Batista with a chair from behind. Before Batista turns around, Eddie plays dead and tosses the chair to Mercury. Batista destroys Mercury, and he and Eddie celebrate as the show goes off the air.

WINNER: The LOD by DQ (via 18 moths)

Biggest Pop: Rey Mysterio
Most Heat: JBL
