Impact: The interference won't stop
By CHRIS SOKOL - SLAM! Wrestling

TNA has been on a tear as of late, producing some of the best Impact's the company has ever produced. Even though there has been a rash of tournaments and such, the matches have still, for the most part, been fresh and entertaining. Will things continue this week?

This week's show started off with a recap of the current Heavyweight Championship situation. You can already tell by the way the video package was done, the effects of new people entering the company and "Tightening things up" to make for a more professional look when the Spike TV debut comes.

MATCH ONE - SEMIFINAL MATCH IN THE CHRIS CANDIDO TAG TEAM MEMORIAL CUP TOURNAMENT - "Syxx Pac" Sean Waltman and Alex Shelly vs Konnan and Lance Hoyt
Not a great match by any measure. Konnan looked somewhat bad with the exception of a Rocking Horse submission move he put on Alex Shelly. Hoyt came in after both Shelly and Konnan made tags, cleaning house and sending Waltman for quite the ride on the Back Body Drop. From there Hoyt hit Waltman with a big boot to the face, but Kip James came out and provided the distraction, allowing Waltman to low blow the big man and hit him with the X-Factor. Wish Shelly would have gotten a singles push, but maybe some other time.
WINNERS VIA PINFALL - "Syxx Pac" Sean Waltman and Alex Shelly

Backstage "The King of the Mountain" Jeff Jarrett is caught asking "The Franchise" Shane Douglas to follow him. The two catch up with Ron "The Truth" Killings and BG James who are doing some weird dancing moves that are probably illegal in most states. Nevertheless the two stop tapping feet to listen to the former champ who asks them if it's a coincidence that once they reformed, TNA put them in separate tag matches in the tournament. Jarrett tries getting them to believe that all the people who built up TNA will be replaced by the time they go to Spike TV. Konnan catches the four talking and immediately gets on the defensive, saying 3LK are together and Jarrett can do whatever he wants. Konnan storms off as James and Killings tell him that Jarrett is making sense.

MATCH TWO - "The Fallen Angel" Christopher Daniels vs Shark Boy
Mark my words, Christopher Daniels will be NWA World Heavyweight Champion before too long. Give it some time, but one day he will be wearing that gold and leading the company. He is another superb talent who I am personally glad is out from behind the mic and back in the ring. Both men go back and forth in a solid match-up. Daniels hit the BME (Best Moonsault Ever) and went for the cover, but was distracted by "The Phenomenal" AJ Styles who came to ringside. When Daniels turned around, he was small-packaged by Shark Boy and pinned. Upset! Upset! Upset!
WINNER VIA PINFALL - Shark Boy

MATCH THREE - SEMI-FINAL MATCH IN THE CHRIS CANDIDO TAG TEAM MEMORIAL CUP TOURNAMENT - Shocker and Chris Sabin vs Ron "The Truth" Killings and "The Original Playa From The Himalayas" Sonjay Dutt
Another great match. It's good to have Sonjay Dutt back in the mainstream again, he showcased phenomenal skill in this match and really put on a show. Same can be said for Chris Sabin who should be the next one to get X Division gold after the AJ Styles/Samoa Joe/Christopher Daniels feud finds resolution. Sabin and Shocker argued a bit after Sabin caught Shocker with Killings' legs when going for the Cradle Shock, they got hit by a Top Rope Double Cross Body Block from Dutt, but regained control leading to Sabin pinning Dutt with a roll up.
WINNERS VIA PINFALL - Shocker and Chris Sabin

MATCH FOUR - "The Alpha Male" Monty Brown vs Sonny Siaki w/ Apolo
The match really didn't get underway so to say, as Kip James for the second time in one Impact, made his way down to ringside hitting Apolo. Siaki hit the Siakolypse on Brown and went for the pin, but was distracted by James on the outside. *TNA BOOKING NOTE - Don't let a distraction occur in almost every match on the same show.* Siaki dove to the outside on James and went at it until he was taken out by the POOOOUNCEEE! Brown whipped out a steel chair and jammed Siaki's throat into it. They then sent Apolo into the ring and went to do it to him, but Lance Hoyt came down with a chair in hand to break things up. James and Brown bailed as Hoyt asked them to start that stuff with him.
WINNER - No Contest

Another video hyping the Heavyweight Championship situation is shown. Raven claims that Rhino is breakable. Raven claimed to enjoy pain, but said he knows he can't say the same for Rhino. The two will meet at TNA Unbreakable on PPV, September 11. It is also announced earlier in the show that Abyss will be facing Sabu on that date. Can you say "Great match"?

MATCH FIVE - Chase Stevens w/ Andy Douglas and "The Mouth of the South" Jimmy Hart vs "The Tennesee Cowboy" James Storm w/ "Wildcat" Chris Harris
Pretty good match right here, both men went back and forth reversing one another and delivering up some heavy offence, much to the delight of the fans. On the outside, Harris and Douglas got into a few verbal wars. The end came when both Stevens and Storm caught each other with Superkicks. Harris told the ref to watch Douglas and while the ref has his back turned, Harris rolled Storm on top of Stevens getting the victory for his AMW partner.
WINNER VIA PINFALL - "The Tenesse Cowboy" James Storm

A decent Impact this week. While I would have liked more had four out of five matches not had interference, it was still an "OK" offering. The wrestling more than made up for the other flaws this show had. TNA needs to continue tightening up and getting rid of the kinks; Spike TV is right around the corner!

MATCHES SET FOR TNA UNBREAKABLE ON SEPTEMBER 11:

  • NWA World Heavyweight Championship Match - Raven (C) vs "The Man Beast" Rhino
  • "The Monter" Abyss w/ Father James Mitchell vs "The Suicidal, Homicidal and Genocidal" Sabu
  • Triple Threat TNA X Division Championship Match - "The Fallen Angel" Christopher Daniels (C) vs "The Samoan Submission Machine" Samoa Joe vs "The Phenomenal" AJ Styles
  • Four-Way NWA World Tag Team Championship Match - The Naturals (C) w/ "The Mouth of the South" Jimmy Hart vs America's Most Wanted vs Team Canada vs The Winners of the Chris Candido Tag Team Memorial Cup Tournament
