Impact: Candido tag tourney launched
By CHRIS SOKOL -- SLAM! Wrestling

Fresh on the heels of TNA Sacrifice and last month's Super X Cup Tournament, it would only be wise to hold another tournament, right? This week, TNA brings to us ... The Chris Candido Tag Team Memorial Cup.

The show starts with a quick recap of the phenomenal TNA Sacrifice PPV.

Match One - "The Samoan Submission Machine" Samoa Joe vs Jerelle Clarke
Orlando's own Jerelle Clarke was mauled and brutalized by "The Samoan Submission Machine" in this one. Clarke mounted little offense before getting destroyed by TNA's newest prodigy. Clarke went for a moonsault, and Joe just walked out of the way, leaving Clarke to land face first on the canvas. With Clarke weakened, Joe went ahead and planted him with a Muscle Buster before locking in the Kikeda Clutch for the submission. Post match "The Fallen Angel" Christopher Daniels hit the ring and attacked Joe with the belt. He was reversed when he went for The Angels Wings. AJ Styles came down next and proceeded to get revenge on the X Division Champ. Joe charged and missed AJ clotheslining Daniels, before getting double dropkicked by "The Phenomenal One" to the floor.
Winner Via Submission - "The Samoan Submission Machine" Samoa Joe

Backstage, Shane Douglas stood outside Larry Zybysko's office, while "The King of the Mountain" Jeff Jarrett and Larry Zybysko argued over a title shot. Zybysko told Jarrett that he could have the title shot at Unbreakable as long as Rhino gave it to him. Jarrett told Rhino he needed to be the champion when they went to Spike TV. Rhino responded by telling Jarrett he could have a shot, after he defeated Raven at Unbreakable.

Match Two - First Round In The Chris Candido Tag Team Memorial Cup - Simon Diamond and Mikey Batts vs Chris Sabin and Shocker
It's great that TNA is having something to honor the late Chris Candido, but the whole idea of pairing a veteran with a younger star in the tournament really takes away from the tournament. I could name at least 20 legitimate Tag Teams that could be in this tournament from the indy scene. Nevertheless, Diamond and Batts seem to find chemistry, leading to Batts getting put away with The Cradle Shock.
Winners Via Pinfall - Chris Sabin and Shocker

Shane Douglas caught up with "The Alpha Male" Monty Brown who talked about how BG James couldn't be trusted. He runs down everyone ala The Rock, before saying that the NWA World Heavyweight Championship would be coming to the Serengetti where it belonged.

Match Three - Rhino vs Sonny Siaki w/ Apolo
Pretty good match-up. Now that Rhino has someplace to showcase his true ability, he has been putting forth some good matches. The results of this one were as to be expected as Siaki finds himself gored into next week. After the match, Rhino got on the mic and called out Raven, who answered "Gore me once, shame on you; Gore me twice, shame on me." With security and referees everywhere, Raven got in the ring and was once again gored out of his boots.
Winner Via Pinfall - Rhino

Match Four - First Round In The Chris Candido Tag Team Memorial Cup - BG James and Cassidy Riley vs Ron "The Truth" Killings and Sonjay Dutt
Again, more bad booking for TNA here. We understand that 3 Live Kru is back together...for the time being. I don't think we needed BG James to check on Killings during the match, then proceed to Pump Handle Slam his own partner, so Dutt could hit the Himalaya Press and win the match, while BG James celebrates. This Cup was meant to be special, and to have someone involved not care about losing, no matter what the circumstances are, really defeats the purpose.
Winners Via Pinfall - Ron "The Truth" Killings and Sonjay Dutt

In the back, Father James Mitchell stood by with "The Monster" Abyss to deliver a powerful message, stating how upset he is over the fact that next week, Bobby Roode gets a World Title Shot instead of Abyss. Mitchell syas that Roode is a great athlete, but Abyss deserves the title shot. Mitchell tells Zybysko he better put down his golf clubs and do something about it, because until he does, the blood of Abyss' victims will be on his hands.

Match Five - NWA World Tag Team Championship Match - The Naturals w/ "The Mouth of the South" Jimmy Hart (C) vs Team Canada (A-1 and "Showtime" Eric Young)
Exactly what you would expect from these two teams, a great tag team match. "Showtime" Eric Young has really improved himself and gets more and more impressive each week. he is someone TNA needs to watch carefully, as he seems to be on a tear as of late. The Naturals hit The Natural Disaster, but their pin was broken up by Bobby Roode and Petey Williams causing the DQ. The four on two beatdown ensued until America's Most Wanted made the save. Once The Naturals came to, they got right in AMW's faces and said they didn't need their help, once Jimmy Hart got shoved by AMW the fight was on as the Canadians watched and laughed.
Winners Via DQ and STILL NWA World Tag Team Champions - The Naturals

Decent Impact, some solid matches that really pushed the show. TNA is really stepping up their game as they anticipate would could be the biggest move in their three plus year tenure. Watch out Spike TV, this will be better than Velocity!
