Impact: Sacrifice takes shape
By CHRIS SOKOL -- SLAM! Wrestling
Coming on the heels of an action packed X-Divsion jammed TNA Impact last week, TNA is back on the train to success. This week, Raven and Sabu team up, plus Samoa Joe takes on Alex Shelly in the Semi-Finals of the Super X-Cup Tournament. Brace yourselves for TNA Impact!
Things started off with the regular recap. This week's recap highlights the Raven/Sabu/Rhino/Jeff Jarrett feud, which I feel will result in a damn good match.
Match One - Semi-Finals For The Super X Cup Tournament - Samoa Joe vs Alex Shelly
X-Division champ turned color commentator "The Fallen Angel" Christopher Daniels joins Mike Tenay and Don West yet again to call this Semi-Final match. Samoa Joe went full steam at Shelly as Team Canada's Petey Williams watched on from the stage and "The Phenomenal" AJ Styles watched from backstage. Shelly used his unqie move set to reverse the momentum, but could not maintain it for long. Shelly, as an amazing talent as he is, will not get the push pass Joe as he fell victim to a Muscle Buster followed by The Kikeda Clutch.
Winner Via Knock-Out - Samoa Joe
A vidoe package hyping the Jerry Lynn/Sean Waltman match at Sacrafice is shown. It included some cool clips of what I believe was their GWF (Global Wrestling Federation) days. Should be another great match.
Shane Douglas then caught up with Cassidy Riley, who said he was disappointed Raven didn't pick him as his partner, but who better to be overlooked for than Sabu. He told Douglas that he didn't have much time and was leaving to get a front row seat for Sacrifice.
Match Two - NWA Tag Team Championship Match - The Naturals w/Jimmy "The Mouth of the South" Hart (C) vs Bobby Roode and "Showtime" Eric Young w/A-1
Team Canada used their typical cheap tactics to get the upper hand on The Naturals early on. This match just got better and better as time progressed. Petey Williams tried to get involved, but to no avail. A-1 got involved, but knocked out for his troubles. Young got sent over the turnbuckles to the apron a la Ric Flair and was then clotheslined into a backflip hitting his head on the apron. Simply amazing.
The megaphone came in use when Roode stole it, but The Naturals recovered it and clocked Young. They then tossed the Megaphone to Roode and laid down just in time to have the Canadians framed.
Winners Via DQ and still NWA Tag Team Champions - The Naturals
After the match, Team Canada beat on The Naturals before America's Most Wanted made the save. AMW grabbed the belts and handed them to the champs, but not without a little tug and stare down. AMW vs The Naturals at Sacrifice?
Match Three - Abyss w/ Father James Mitchell vs Apolo w/ Sonny Siaki
Both men went at it with Apolo surprisingly getting the better of Abyss at times. Abyss tried to use a chair, but he was un-armed by Siaki. With Mitchell and Siaki arguing on the outside, Abyss grabbed the steel chair, but missed and got superkicked twice in the face by Apolo who could only muster a two count. Both men sprang back into action and Apolo was planted via The Black Hole Slam.
After the match, Lance Hoyt came in and attacked Abyss, sending him to the floor. He got on the mic and told Abyss and Mitchell that they chose to make an example out of the wrong person. He then told Abyss that in case he forgot, he would let the fans tell him who he was. Abyss vs Lance Hoyt at Sacrifice?
We shoot backstage to "The Alpha Male" Monty Brown complaining to Larry Zybysko about BG James being the Special Guest Referee in his match at Sacrifice. Zybysko tried to explain that there were no other options, to which Brown said, "with BG James as the Special Guest Referee, the serengetti would be a much more dangerous place."
Match Four - Simon Diamond and David Young vs Sabu and Raven
Diamond and Young got some offense in, but were for the most part squashed by the Extreme Dream Team. Raven hit Young with the Evenflow DDT and Sabu followed through with an Arabian Face Buster on Young as Diamond watched from ringside. Sabu made the cover and got the three count.
Winners Via Pinfall - Sabu and Raven
After the match Jeff Jarrett and Rhino hit the ring and attacked Raven and Sabu, who fought back sending "The King of the Mountain" and "The Man Beast" to the floor. Security came in to break things up, but that didn't stop Sabu from doing a leap off the chair over the top rope onto Jarrett, Rhino and a security guard.
As dumb as it is to have your major championship not being defended on PPV, this match will still be a blockbuster. TNA is on the right track as they head into their Spike TV debut. Nobody deserves this more than TNA. Best of luck once again and keep the good stuff coming!
