Smackdown: Story time with Latino Heat
By JON WALDMAN -- SLAM! Wrestling

Welcome once again to the Smackdown Report. This is Jon Waldman, and I'm back while we continue the search for Dale Plummer in Cleveland. I've sent Corey David Lacroix out this time to look for Dale and Nick Tywalk, so hopefully the search will end soon, because we're running out of staff members here.

We open tonight's episode with a brand new talk segment, The Peep Show, hosted by Christian. Well, that's three shows on WWE TV right now. Even in the height of "talk shows" in the '80s, we didn't have that many.

Anyways, the first guest on The Peep Show is Rey Mysterio Jr., who comes out only after Christian promises that Eddie Guererro will be there as well. In fact, Eddie is only there in spirit, as Latino Heat's actually backstage to read the second chapter of Eddie's Bedtime Story. Guererro debuts his new "I'm your Papi" T-shirt, only one week after I asked the question in the title of the Smackdown recap. I want my cut of the take Eddie!

Mysterio cuts Guererro off, who promises Chapter Two will be read by the end of the night, and Christian attacks Mysterio from behind. That, as we find out later, will end up being a match tonight.

Back from break, Jillian Hall tries to make an emotional speech about her conjoined-twin myslexia condition...er... I mean her blemish. Whatever.

Match 1 ? Booker T and Chris Benoit vs. MNM

I said it last week, I'll say it again next week ? Nitro looks a lot like Edge in his kazoo-tooting days.

Booker T and Chris Benoit dominate the first part of the match as Mercury spends the entire first segment getting pummelled in the ring. Back from the break, Nitro is getting the beats and continues to get beat down until Melina distracts the referee, allowing Mercury to interfere. The former tag champs then dominate with some cheap work until the Titan Tag Team Formula takes over.

Once Booker's in, he takes over on Mercury as Nitro is neutralized outside. Eventually, a catfight ensues, and in the confusion, Mercury rolls up Booker T for the duke.

Winner ? MNM
Rating ? 4 out of 10
Solid tag team action. No complaints here.

Next up, Randy Orton tells Josh Matthews that he will be coming out to the ring to talk about what happened with The Undertaker last week.

Back from the break, we get the contract signing for the World Heavyweight Championship match at Summerslam. Batista decides that he's open to any match at Summerslam, and JBL decides on a No Holds Barred match. You'd think he'd want a bullrope match, since that's how he beat Guererro for the belt last year. Oh well.

Before we head to break, we find out that Heidenreich is ready to wear the face paint as part of the Legion of Doom.

Match 2 ? L.O.D. 2005 vs. J.O.T.W.8-4

This week's minute men are Josh Daniels and Damian Adams. This match lasts a bit longer than last week's but not by much.

Winners: L.O.D. 2005
Rating ? 1.5 out of 10
Like I said last week, it only really looks good if these guys are beating semi name guys off the main roster.

Back from break, Randy Orton is out, and challenges Undertaker to a bout at Summerslam. 'Taker responds with a video answer, and we're set for another match between the two.

We get another Boogeyman promo as we come back from break. Now that we're seeing these only on Smackdown, we can say safely which brand he's going to be fodder for the Undertaker in a supernatural battle, a la Kane.

Back to the arena, Guererro is waiting for a limo, and out comes a mystery woman.

Match 3 ? Rey Mysterio Jr. vs. Christian

Rey starts out hot and heavy with some Lucha moves. As Mysterio dominates the match, Guererro and the woman come out and take a (padded) seat in the aisleway.

The match continues after the break with Christian in control. Christian continues to be in control in about which, if I'm not mistaken, is the first between these two. The bout is a very strong effort from both as they move into back and forth momentum swings. We head to a second commercial break with Christian in control again, with Rey in control after the break. Quickly, Mysterio hits the Drop of the Dime on Christian to win the bout.

Winner: Rey Mysterio Jr.
Rating ? 6.5 out of 10
I don't know about anyone else, but the complete, commercial-free match would be an excellent extra on the Summerslam DVD.

To end Smackdown, Mysterio challenges Guererro to a fight. Guererro, instead, introduces the mystery woman, Anna, who gives Rey Chapter Two to read. Chapter Two is a custody document. Mysterio must bring Dominick next week and turn him over to Eddie, unless Rey can convince him otherwise. Mysterio goes into a very emotional speech, but it's not enough to convince Guererro, who retorts with an equally strong speech, promising Chapter Three next week.

Well, there were only three matches this week, though one of them was as good a bout as we've seen from the Smackdown brand, either on TV or pay-per-view.
