TNA announces Spike TV deal
TNA Entertainment, LLC has signed a deal with Spike TV to telecast TNA (Total Nonstop Action) Wrestling's weekly iMPACT! show.
The long-expected announcement puts iMPACT! into Spike TV's "Slammin' Saturday Night" programming block starting this Fall.
"We are thrilled to be coming to Spike TV," said Dixie Carter, President, TNA Entertainment, LLC, in a press release. "We look forward to bringing our exciting style of Total Non-stop Action and entertainment to their male viewers."
The TNA website proclaimed the deal with a massive homepage graphic (shown above). On Sunday's No Surrender pay-per-view the company ran a backwards message to tease that the deal with Spike TV was close to being done.
The debut show on Spike TV is expected to be Saturday, October 1st. iMPACT! will continue to be taped at Soundstage 21 at Universal Studios in Orlando, Florida.
According to the press release, TNA programming is currently available in 118 countries and their monthly pay-per-views are available on iN DEMAND, DIRECTV, Dish Network and TVN as well as Viewer's Choice, Bell ExpressVu and Shaw PPV in Canada.
Spike TV, which bills itself as the first network for men, is available in 88 million U.S. homes and is a division of MTV Networks. It first got into the wrestling business with ECW when the network was known as The Nashville Network, then, on September 25, 2000, it signed a major deal with WWE for Raw as the company switched gears to being known as The National Network, which eventually led to Spike TV as a brand. (WWE Raw returned to the USA Network in April, after Spike TV ended negotations in March for a contract renewal.)
TNA, which recently celebrated its third anniversary, started out as a weekly Wednesday pay-per-view company. A pay-per-play deal was struck with Fox Sports Net for iMPACT!, generally shown on Friday afternoons. After that year-long deal expired, TNA initially sought a deal with WGN, a superstation out of Chicago.
