Report: Earl Hebner fired by WWE
By JON WALDMAN -- SLAM! Wrestling

Another World Wrestling Entertainment talent may have been released from the Stamford, CT.-based company, as word is spreading that Raw Senior Referee Earl Hebner has been fired.

The Wrestling Observer reported earlier today that Hebner was released Monday, "allegedly for selling merchandise without authorization."

The Observer also notes that Hebner's twin brother, Dave, has not been fired, instead being disciplined for his involvement. As of 8:30 am EST, WWE had not issued any statements on its website.

Earl Hebner first appeared on WWE TV in late 1988 as part of a plot by "The Million Dollar Man" Ted Dibiase to procure the WWF World Heavyweight Championship from Hulk Hogan during a match against Andre the Giant. Since then, Hebner has been a regular on WWE programming, earning the title of Senior Referee.

Most famously, Hebner was the referee during the Shawn Michaels/Bret Hart match at Survivor Series 1997. His involvement in the bout lead fans to chant "you screwed Bret" at shows across Canada and parts of the United States. Hebner has also been involved in a couple WWE storylines, including an altercation with Triple H following a title victory by Chris Jericho, and an altercation with then WCW Senior Referee Nick Patrick.

Hebner's son, Brian, is also a referee with WWE.
