Smackdown: BWO triumphs; terrorist angle airs
By CHRIS SOKOL - SLAM! Wrestling

What a week WWE is having. A slew of stars released, Brock Lesnar planning on making a comeback ... WWE is all shook up. Not only has Raw been turned upside down, but so has SmackDown!, as tonight, what would have been a normal Raw match, finds itself on the main event spot on SmackDown!, with Batista taking on the leader of the "Christian Coalition". Enough useless banter, let's get on to SmackDown!

The show started with a recap of the title scene on SmackDown! Cena's switch to Raw was good, as was Batista's to SmackDown! It will be great to see those champs against a host of different characters.

JBL is in the ring to deliver his usual speech about why he's so great a wrestler, and why he's going to be champion again. Don't get me wrong, JBL is tremendous when it comes to mic work, he's just limited his vocabulary in his recent promos. He tells Batista "Tick tock, tick tock." JBL's music began to play amidst his blabber, as his limo began to pull out into the arena. From out of the backseat came the Blue World Order. Stevie Richards played the roll of "Bluewheat" to mock Orlando Jordan, Hollywood Nova played the roll of "Bashme" to mock The Basham Brothers, and The Blue Meanie played the roll of "John 'Bradshaw' Lamefield." Blue Meanie challenged JBL to a match, as The Blue Meanie spraypainted "B.W.O" on the hood of Layfield's limo. Rather than be faced with a lawsuit, WWE brought Meanie in. Not only did they bring him in, but they are going to use a real life personal situation to their benefit. You have to love that.

Match One - Number One Contender's Match for a shot at the WWE United States Championship - "The Rabid Wolverine" Chris Benoit vs Booker T

Whatever WWE does, they need to take that belt off Jordan. I don't care if Michael Cole, or even Torrie Wilson dressed as Uncle Sam beat him for it, just take it off. He is about as significant as a goldfish in the ocean, and that's being kind. Some good chain and counter wrestling in this match-up, but Benoit's ability to counter a suplex into a Crossface paid off in bundles. Sharmell, who was watching on backstage, was scared away by Jordan who came to look once the match was over.

Winner Via Submission and Number One Contender to the WWE United States Championship- "The Rabid Wolverine" Chris Benoit

Recap of the Eddie Guerrero vs Rey Mysterio feud was shown. This honestly is one of the greatest feuds to pass through wrestling in quite a long time.

A nervous Rey Mysterio walked into Eddie Guerrero's dressing room, and was forced into tagging with Eddie in a Tag Title match against MNM.

Hassan and Daivari were shown arguing with Teddy Long, as Hassan was never officially eliminated from the match last week. Long tells Hassan that he will get a Number One Contender's match against 'Taker at The Great American Bash, while Daivari would face him later on. Another good looking feud.

Match Two - No Disqualification Match - John "Bradshaw" Layfield vs The Blue Meanie w/Big Stevie Cool and Hollywood Nova

JBL dominated The Meanie the entire match, except for a couple of weak shots that the Meanie got in on JBL. BWO got involved, with Richards cracking a chair over JBL's head, legitamately busting him wide open. Meanie got a two count, but JBL got up and hit a vicious Clothesline From Hell. Jordan tried to get involved, but was kept at bay by the BWO, as Batista hit the Spinebuster on JBL, rolling Meanie on top of him for the pin.

Winner Via Pinfall - The Blue Meanie

Match Three - WWE Tag Team Championship Match - MNM w/ Melina vs Eddie Guerrero and Rey Mysterio

Melina's entrance is just tremendous. Eddie started off hot, but fizzled down and let Mysterio take a beating, breaking up any offensive flury he had. MNM hit The Snapshot on Mysterio and pinned him for the three count. After the match Guerrero taunted Mysterio some more, and made him hold the ropes open for him.

Winners Via Pinfall and STILL WWE Tag Team Champions - MNM

Raw Magazine brought us the Raw Rebound. The Shawn Michaels heel turn will definitely be great. He was one of the greatest heels the wrestling business has ever seen. Great to have him back at that postion.

Steve Romero caught up with Christian who berated him and talked about all the main events he's been in recently, and the names he's wrestled recently. He says he will beat Batista because, "I'm Captian Charisma bitch!" Indeed he is.

Matt Morgan came to the ring for the last time, for a match he was supposed to have with William Regal, when from out of the back came The Mexicools. They proceeded to almost run William Regal over, they beat the tar out of Matt Morgan, triple baseball sliding him out of the ring, and cutting one of their broken English promos, all as Regal watched on in disbelief. Mexicools are another great gimmick, but what is with SmackDown! and the word "Cool"? Carlito Carribean Cool, Michelle McCool and The Mexicools. Get over that word!

Hassan was backstage with Daivari, as he told him he would "Be a sacrifice for the greater good." He said it would not come without great rewards, and proceeded to whisper something to him.

Match Three - Daivari w/ Muhammad Hassan vs The Undertaker

Daivari tried to bail, but was thrown back into the ring by Hassan. He was then chokeslammed and Tombstoned for the three. Then, Hassan got on his knees, and a group of five "terrorists" hit the ring and proceeded to choke 'Taker out with piano wire. Hassan then applied the Camel Clutch on a beaten 'Taker, as the masked men carried Daivari away high above their heads. WWE placed disclaimers about this throughout the show, due because of the horrible tradgedy that struck London earlier in the morning. SLAM! Wrestling extends their prayers to those people who were affected. SmackDown! was taped on Monday.

Winner Via Pinfall - The Undertaker

We came back to a recap of Undertaker's beatdown. Should be a good match at the Bash.

Match Four - Christian vs Batista

Batista just powered around Christian all over the place. Christian got his shots in, but they were not enough. Batista finished off Christian with a front slam, followed by a running bodyslam, followed by a spinebuster, capped off with a Batista Bomb. JBL and Orlando Jordan hit the ring, with JBL shoving Jordan into a Spinebuster and leaving. Jordan then recieved a Batista Bomb as Batista and JBL stared one another down, with JBL telling Batista "Tick tock, tick tock."

Winner Via Pinfall - Batista

Interesting SmackDown! that set up a lot for The Great American Bash. The recent cuts haven't really shown any great significance, WWE can do without who they cut because of their large roster. Sure, a handful of names had great potenial, but what can you do? WWE will continue to trudge on as we draw nearer to the most patriotic event in wrestling history, The Great American Bash!
