WWE headed back to PS2 this fall

Sony Playstation 2 gamers will be headed back to stores this fall, as Smackdown vs. Raw 2006 has been announced.

The latest World Wrestling Entertainment video game for the popular console looks to continue in the footsteps of the popular Smackdown brand of video games. Last year's incarnation, the first Smackdown vs. Raw title, had over a million sales.

Smackdown vs. Raw 2006 will once again be developed by Jakks Pacific, Inc. and THQ Inc. THQ has been developing WWE games since the late 1990s, after having a successful run of World Championship Wrestling video games. Alog with PS2, THQ developes WWE titles for X-Box and Nintendo Gamecube.

New features for Smackdown vs. Raw 2006 will include Momentum and Stamina systems to further enhance the game's realism. There will also be additional online features, which were first introduced tot he Smackdown game line last year.

"WWE SmackDown! Vs. RAW 2006 showcases all of the excitement and energy of the WWE," said Peter Dille, senior vice president of worldwide marketing for THQ in a release. "The WWE is one of the premier franchises in the industry and this title is primed to deliver the most intense wrestling gameplay along with true-to-life graphics, resulting in the deepest and most realistic wrestling experience ever."
