Smackdown: Eddie & Rey dominate
By CHRIS SOKOL - SLAM! Wrestling
This week the feud continues as friends collide one more time. Yes, Eddie Guerrero and Rey Mysterio go one-on-one (again) to determine who really is the better man as SmackDown! makes its way into Tuscon, Arizona. The show starts off with a recap of the Rey Mysterio/Eddie Guerrero feud. I will say this right now, before we get any further. This was the absolute greatest feud in WWE since as far back as McMahon vs Austin, enthralling promos and the story that was being told is what made this feud great. Randy Orton comes out to make the first ring entrance of the night. He get's on the mic and starts putting himself over. Michael Cole mentions he's the Master of the RKO; well Michael, that's because it's his move. Nevertheless, the replay of him RKO'ing The Undertaker is shown over and over. Orton says that there will be many more memories courtesy of the RKO. The lights flicker and a replay of Orton getting pinned at 'Mania is shown. Fog engulfs the ring, lights out, Taker appears. Orton runs and tells 'Taker that they will do things on his terms. 'Taker says that death waits for nobody and a lighting bolt strikes next to Orton sending him running.
Match One- Joey Mercury w/ Johnny Nitro and Melina vs Heidenreich Rey Mysterio cuts an awesome promo saying how it felt good to hit Guerrero with that chair over and over again. He goes on to say that he would be getting redemption. MNM are backstage, Nitro and Mercury are talking about how they beat Heidenreich while Melina complains about the beating she received from Michelle McCool. Melina then says how she would beat Michelle McCool in the ring; MNM doubt her, but we'll see next week. JBL is knocking on Teddy Long's door. Long comes out and talks about how there will be a new SmackDown! champion crowned, and JBL will be happy with the announcement. He says he has to go though; JBL knows the draft pick is inside Teddy's office, but Teddy won't even hint to him who it is.
Match Two- WWE Cruiserweight Championship Match - Paul London (C) vs Chavo Guerrero We come back from a commercial break and JBL is in the ring running his mouth, claiming that he is "Mr. SmackDown!" He talks about how Teddy Long is going to hand him the SmackDown! Championship next week. This prompts Booker T to make his way to the ring. The two argue, prompting Chris Benoit to hit the ring. The three argue..."Well It's The Big Show"...Teddy Long struts to the ring and says that next week these four men and The Undertaker will battle it out in a Six-Way Elimination. Cue Muhammad Hassan's music. Hassan and Daivari are the package draft pick from Raw. Long calls SmackDown! the land of opportunity and he will add Hassan to the mix. But Hassan's bashing of the other stars in the ring not only landed him outside the ring with Daivari on top of him, but they also landed him in...
Match Three- Muhammad Hassan w/ Daivari vs The Big Show A full recap of the Mysterio/Guerrero feud is shown. Tremendous video package, let's hope the match can be as good, if not better. Steve Romero walks in on Eddie Guerrero, who cuts a brief promo on Mysterio, saying that Mysterio doesn't know what he's capable of. It's announced that next week Melina will go one-on-one with Michelle McCool, and the Six-Way Challenge to crown a new SmackDown! Champion will take place.
Match Four- Eddie Guerrero vs Rey Mysterio
Interesting SmackDown! that was solely geared for the Mysterio/Guerrero match, and rightfully so. Not much else, the Heavyweight title scene was pushed, and Melina's little tie up with Michelle McCool was mentioned in there. The main event was decent, just not as good as their Halloween Havoc 1997 clash. Maybe one day they can re-capture that magic.
