Countdown to WWE Judgment Day 2005
By SLAM! Wrestling Staff

WWE returns to pay-per-view this Sunday with Judgment Day. This event has a little bit of something for everyone and could be a sleeper hit. Let's take a closer look at the 2005 edition of Judgment Day.

WWE CHAMPIONSHIP I QUIT MATCH

JBL vs. John Cena

SLAM! Predictions

  • Greg Oliver
There is no question that Cena is going over, the question is how. Undoubtedly, they will be given more time than at WrestleMania as well. In the end, JBL says "I quit" as a bloody mess.

  • Chris Sokol
Cena just won the title in his last PPV outing, he has a brand new CD out, he is SmackDown's top prodigy and he is geting promoted like nobody would believe. Needless to say, JBL will utter the words "I Quit!".

  • Jon Waldman
While it's painfully obvious that Cena's going over here, the real question is how JBL looks afterward. If they bury him like they did at 'Mania, the character is dead. If they keep him strong, however, we could see a strong character go over to Raw and have a quasi-interesting feud with HHH (or vice-versa).

    GRUDGE MATCH

    Kurt Angle vs. Booker T

    SLAM! Predictions

  • Greg Oliver
My first thought was that they'd turn Booker's wife, but WWE storyline writers would never do anything so predictable, would they (cough ... Lita-Edge ... cough, cough)? Angle is being groomed again for bigger things, so he'll go over in an entertaining bout.

  • Chris Sokol
A storyline centered around rape is a bad idea indeed. Booker and Kurt are two amazing athletes but the storyline that has pitted them foes has gotten out of hand for primetime television. Just as WWE will be losing fans, Kurt Angle will be losing this match, allowing the Booker Man to get some revenge.

  • Jon Waldman
I don't know how anyone can be a fan of the circumstance of this match. These two put on a near five-star classic during the inVasion angle a few years back, but that was long before Angle's neck became as much of a problem as it is today. This one won't be all that good, though in all likelihood it will end up being viewed as a number one contender bout. Angle goes over easily.

    GRUDGE MATCH

Eddy Guererro vs. Rey Mysterio Jr.

    SLAM! Predictions

  • Greg Oliver
This match will steal the show, and Guerrero has to be the full out heel, leaving Rey a broken, beaten man. Guerrero goes over, no doubt with a little lyin' and cheatin'.

  • Chris Sokol
One of the best storylines in recent WWE history is showing exactly how great of a heel Eddie Guerrero can be. This feud has really evolved and grown to tremendous heights. However, there won't be a happy ending as Eddie Guerrero takes the win in this one.

  • Jon Waldman
Well, any time you get remnants of the "Smackdown Six" in about together, you know you're going to have a great technical match. The bonus here is that there is a very hot storyline going in, with some of the best promo work Smackdown has seen in a long time, courtesy of Mr. Guererro. The thing is this - if Eddy goes over big, Rey's momentum towards a WWE Title reign is killed. If Rey goes over big, Eddy's heat is immediately lost. What we need here is a hot bout, maybe with a DQ finish, leading to a Last Man Standing match, or something of that nature, possibly at Summerslam. I'll go with a no contest finish here.

    OTHER MATCHES
WWE TAG TEAM TITLE MATCH: M-N-M vs. Hardcore Holly/Charlie Haas

  • Greg Oliver: MNM continues their dominance.
  • Chris Sokol: No question in anyones mind, M-N-M's roll to WWE stardom continues on.
  • Jon Waldman: M-N-M gets more cred here, hopefully with a clean victory. Don't be surprised if we see a Melina/Jackie Gayda catfight.
  • UNITED STATES TITLE MATCH: Orlando Jordan vs. Heidenreich
  • Greg Oliver: Heidenreich surprises.
  • Chris Sokol: Interesting pairing here, Jordan will find a way around Heidenreich though.
  • Jon Waldman: Please get the belt off the heatless, talentless Orlando Jordan.
  • GRUDGE MATCH: Carlito Carribean Cool vs. Big Show
  • Chris Sokol: Ha Ha, a poisned apple. Big Show wins here.
  • Jon Waldman: Carlito's growing on me. He should get the duke here.
