TNA signs champs to long-term deals
By JON WALDMAN -- SLAM! Wrestling
Total Non-Stop Action has ensured that two of the company's brightest stars will be with the company for years to come.
The company announced today that it has reached agreements with "The Phenomenal" AJ Styles and "Fallen Angel" Christopher Daniels, that will see both competitors stay with the near three year-old company though 2008.
"We are thrilled to have two of the brightest young stars in professional wrestling committed to our company for the long term," said Dixie Carter, president of TNA Entertainment in a release. "AJ and Christopher have been an important part of TNA?s success from beginning."
Both Styles and Daniels have been part of TNA since the company launched in 2002. Styles claimed his third NWA World Heavyweight Championship this past Sunday at the Hard Justice pay-per-view event. He is also a former three-time X-Division champion and co-held the NWA World Tag Team championship on two occasions.
Daniels, meanwhile, has spent much of his TNA career as part of XXX, co-holding the Tag Team titles on numerous occasions. His current reign as X-Division Champion is his first as a singles competitor.
The two champions have shared similar paths to wrestling stardom. Both men were highly touted independent wrestlers before joining World Championship Wrestling. The company, however, was purchased by World Wrestling Entertainment, then known as the World Wrestling Federation. The two would continue to impress on the indy scene, working several leagues including Ring of Honor.
Jon Waldman has been with SLAM! since 2000.
