Aaron Idol wins Pacific Cup
Saturday night in Vancouver, ECCW furthered its feud with New Japan Pro Wrestling grapplers as Aaron Idol toppled Puma and "American Dragon" Bryan Danielson to claim the fifth annual Pacific Cup tournament. After defeating APW's JJ Perez in the second round, Idol overcame extremely stiff competition in both Danielson and Puma in a 25-minute classic that saw Idol gain the hard fought victory over Danielson after a thunderous top rope backdrop. Danielson and Puma presented Idol with the Pacific Cup trophy after the match, but, in typical wrestling fashion, attacked Idol, breaking the Pacific Cup trophy in half and leaving Idol face down on the mat. An enraged Danielson proclaimed the superiority of not only himself and Puma, but of New Japan Pro Wrestling as well over ECCW's junior heavyweights. Following the end-of-show hijinks, ECCW owner Dave Republic issued a challenge to New Japan and its head respresentative Antonio Inoki to bring anybody from New Japan to face off Dave Richards, Idol, and all of ECCW. Idol has only been wrestling since 2001. The 6-foot, 215-pound native of Burnaby, BC told Something Cool News - Wrestling recently that he had been concentrating on training for the PacCup this year. "To be honest, I have very few time constraints on my progress in wrestling. I was disappointed in my performance in last years Pacific Cup, and have been training even harder in preparation for this year," Idol told the website. Previous Pacific Cup winners have included Asian Cougar (2000), Black Dragon (2002), Scotty Mac (2003), Major Hardway (2004). Here are the results from both days of the Pacific Cup tournament:
