With the New York Rangers spread across the globe
searching for a hockey game, Smackdown! invades
Madison Square Garden. And I thought the dog show was
last month.
Once again, the FORMER champ, kicks off the show.
And yes, I haven't changed this line from last week.
JBL joins Michael Cole and Tazz at the announce
position, with his old WWE Championship belt.
Match #1 - Big Show vs. Booker T
After Show and Booker make it to the ring, Kurt
Angle walks to the ring, in street clothes, to 'scout'
the match from the announce table. Big Show overpowers
Booker early with a series of head butts. Booker goes
to work on Show's legs, but Show corners Booker and
then throws him across the ring. A stiff clothesline
sends Booker to the match, as JBL and Angle hatch a
plan during their commentary. Booker T is set up for
the chokeslam, but counters with a kick to the gut.
Big Show tries a big boot, but Booker ducks and Show
is hung up. Booker T hits the Bookend, but cannot get
the pin. A missile drop kick can't keep Show down,
either. And enzugiri, followed by a clothesline, sends
Show over the ropes. Booker T's momentum carries him
over to the floor, and Angle and JBL attack both men.
The ref calls for a double disqualification.
Winner: None (Double DQ)
Big Show and Booker fight back, but JBL and Angle
take off. They are stopped by Teddy Long, who
announces the next week will now be a fatal four-way,
with Booker T and Big Show both advancing. Long also
books a tag team match for later tonight with Angle
and JBL facing Booker T and Big Show.
Carlito's Cabana
Carlito is getting much love from the NYC crowd,
until he utters "That's not cool." It's amazing how
fast I turned around on this guy. I couldn't stand him
when he debuted, but now I can't get enough of
Carlito. He's like Rock Light. Eddie Guerrero,
Carlito's guest, finally makes his way to the ring.
Carlito asks Eddie where he was when Rey Mysterio got
beat down last week. Eddie tells him to take it easy.
Carlito then shows Eddie the footage from last week's
match. Eddie verbally lays into Carlito and calls out
Rey Mysterio. Eddie explains that last year, he was
holding the WWE championship, and he has become
obsessed with getting it back. Eddie asks Rey to
forgive him for being selfish, and he was having car
trouble last week when Rey got jumped. Eddie says its
time to focus on what he has his family, and the WWE
Tag Team belts. Rey forgives him, as MNM show up on
the video screen. They demand a title shot. Eddie
tells them to come to the ring and challenge them
face-to-face. Mercury says they are more comfortable
in the back, as they reveal Eddie's car. MNM says
they'll leave their calling card, and spray paint MNM
on the car's hood.
During the break, Eddie and Rey go back to the
car, and says there will be a match tonight.
Matt Morgan is being interviewed by the new
Smackdown reporter before his first match. Correct me
if I'm wrong, but didn't Matt Morgan debut under Paul
Heyman, even wrestling in the RAW vs. Smackdown
survivor series match? Someone get the SLAM! archivist
on this. Oh, wait, this guy has black hair, not
blonde, and he's developed a stutter.
Orlando Jordan chews out the Bashams, throwing his
weight around. Jordan wants the Secretaries of Defense
to soften up Cena for JBL. Danny storms out, saying he
is sick of being bossed around.
Match #2 - Matt Morgan vs. Jobber
Yes, another jobber! It's the early nineties all
over again. Morgan pushes the kid into the corner, and
then takes him out with a big boot. Morgan whips the
jobber into the corner, and then hits him with a
clothesline to the back of the head. Morgan hits a
side slam, and then finishes him off with a suplex
into a DDT move.
Winner via pin fall: Matt Morgan
JBL and Kurt Angle are still arguing as they
prepare for their match with Booker T and Big Show.
Match #3 - JBL and Kurt Angle vs. Booker T and
The Big Show
Booker tags in Show right away to deal with JBL.
Show shoves JBL into the corner, and then whips into
across the ring. Show lays out the former champ with a
head butt, and follows up with a vertical suplex. JBL
fights back, but is stopped by a reverse heel kick.
JBL counters a corner charge with a boot to the face,
but is caught in mid air by Show coming off the
turnbuckle. Show hits a fall away slam. JBL is able to
tag out, and Angle is lifted off his feet by Show.
Booker T tags in, as Show drags Angle into the corner.
Angle fights back, and slaps on a headlock. Booker
hits a hip toss, and on JBL, he tries to interfere.
Angle nails a German suplex, but JBL kicks Angle in
the face, as Booker ducks the boot. Angle recovers to
hit another suplex. JBL tags in and hits a swinging
neck breaker. The Olympic champ tags back in, and
drops Booker in the center of the ring. Angle locks in
a reverse bear hug. Booker T gets to his feet, and
fights out of the hold. Angle goes for the Angle Slam,
but Booker counters. Angle cuts down the five-time
champ with a high elbow, and then tags in JBL. Booker
T blocks a powerbomb, and counters with a back body
drop, but then walks into a big boot. Angle tags in to
hit a belly-to-belly. Angle locks in the reverse bear
hug, again. Booker breaks the hold, and responds with
chops, and then a DDT. JBL tags in, but so does Big
Show. The giant cleans house, and takes both men down
with a shoulder tackle. Show goes for the chokeslam on
JBL, but the Olympic champ hits him the Angle Slam.
JBL then takes out Booker with a big boot. JBL goes
for the Clothesline from Hell, but runs into a choke
slam. Angle has a chance to make the save, but instead
turns his back and walks out of the ring. Booker T
hits the axe kick on JBL, and Show finishes him off
with a choke slam.
Winner via pinfall: Booker T and The Big Show
It's time for another poetry corner with
Heidenreich. Apparently, the big guy has made a friend
in New York City, and it's the Brooklyn Brawler.
Heidenreich pulls another Robert Frost, and reads the
Brawler his new poem. Heidenreich wants his new
friend's opinion. Well, the Brawler doesn't like it,
and says it sucks. The Brawler says the only thing
worse was when the Yankees choked in the ALCS to the
Boston Red Sox. The Brawler rips off his shirt to
reveal a Red Sox shirt, and he is now The Boston
Brawler. George Steinbrenner is going to be furious.
Heidenreich says the Brawler isn't his friend, and
proceeds to beat the tar out of him.
Match #4 - Eddie Guerrero and Rey Mysterio vs.
MNM - WWE Tag Team Title Match
Eddie Guerrero goes after the entire team before
the bell, and catches one of them. Nitro tosses Eddie
into the ring, and the match starts. Mysterio then
tosses Mercury from the ring. After the break, Eddie
and Rey are in full control of the match. Mysterio
drops Nitro with a drop kick. Eddie tags in, and chops
Nitro in the chest. Nitro fights back, and tags in
Mercury. Eddie ducks a corner charge, and hits a
standing dropkick. Mysterio tags in, and hits Mercury
with a series of kicks, and then a seated senton.
Nitro breaks the three count. Nitro catches Mysterio
in mid air, and drop him over Mercury's knee. Guerrero
jumps in and hits the Three Amigos on Mercury.
Mysterio kicks Mercury into the ropes, and goes for
the 619. Melina breaks up the move, and Eddie chases
her up the ramp. This allows Nitro and Mercury to
double team Rey, and hit him with an elevated DDT and
pick up the win.
Winner: MNM
After the match, Eddie and Rey argue with Eddie
shoving Rey to the ground. Mysterio, shocked,
approached Eddie outside the ring, and shoves him
down.
The new tag team champs leave MSG, with the
paparazzi snapping photos on the way out.
Match #5 - John Cena vs. Orlando Jordan w/
Doug Basham
Cena heads to the ring in a throwback Babe Ruth
jersey. Cena cuts a promo for NYC, and then on the
U.S. champ. Jordan strikes first with a shoulder
block, but Cena responds, beating Jordan into the
corner. Jordan counters a charge with a high elbow.
Cena knocks Doug off the apron, but is hit with a DDT
from Jordan. Cena responds with a bulldog, and then an
atomic drop. Jordan is shot off the ropes, and hit
with a back body drop. Cena goes after Doug on the
outside, but is planted into the ring post. Jordan
hits a side slam on Cena, and then locks in a gut
wrench. Cena breaks the hold, and hits a vertical
suplex. Cena fights back with a series of punches and
then clothesline. A spinning side slam sets up the
five knuckle shuffle, that Doug Basham can't break up.
Doug tries by coming off the top rope, but Cena hits
him with an F-U. Jordan climbs the turnbuckle, and
Danny Basham, who was under the ring, attacks Cena.
Jordan hits a flying elbow but can't get the pin.
Danny tries to interfere, but causes Jordan to walk
into an F-U. Cena covers for the win.
Winner via pinfall: John Cena
