PWG sends out the All-Stars
California promotion aims to capitalize on WrestleMania 21 hype
By JASON CLEVETT -- SLAM! Wrestling

Frankie Kazarian

Southern California's Pro Wrestling Guerrilla is unique in a number of ways, including their highly amusing and creative show names such as "44 Ways to kill you with a pimento," "Free Admission (Just Kidding!)" and "Uncanny X-mas." However, this weekend they are capitalizing on nearby WrestleMania 21 to offer up their own "All Star Weekend."

Their two shows this coming weekend, April 1st and 2nd, are at the Hollywood-Los Feliz JCC, and feature a line up that includes some of the top talent from around the world, making the show's title pretty on the money. Here is a preview of what fans will be seeing on the PWG shows.

There is a lot of Canadian content over the weekend. Team Canada's Petey Williams will be in action taking on England's Jonny Storm while Quebec's El Generico and "Mr. Wrestling" Kevin Steen will challenge Super Dragon in a three way dance for the PWG title. Adding to the international flavor is Japan's Kendo Ka Shin will team up with Puma against The Havana Pitbulls (Ricky Reyes and Rocky Romero).

The other two marquee matches are indy fan dreams. The first will feature Samoa Joe taking on former NWA Champion AJ Styles with the winner getting a shot at the PWG strap, while "American Dragon" Bryan Danielson will face Jamie Gibson, formerly Jamie Noble of WWE in what should be a pure wrestling clinic.

The weekend will also feature the last two scheduled dates of the "Frankie Kazarian Farewell Tour." Kazarian has been around the country fulfilling his final indy dates before starting with WWE. On night one he will be in a six-man tag teaming with Aerial Express (Quicksilver & Scorpio Sky) against former friends Arrogance (Chris Bosh, Scott Lost, & Joey Ryan).

"It will be PWG's biggest shows to date. A lot of my buddies will be down in California and it will be the last independent shows I will do. Expect a lot of big things, if you are anywhere near the area please come check it out because it is the best promotion in California" Kazarian said.

Another match that has high expectations is the TNA X-Division championship match between new champion "The Fallen Angel" Christopher Daniels and "The Next" Alex Shelley.

"Alex is a great wrestler who wasn't given a fair shake by TNA. PWG is going to like what he does and we are going to have a really good match" Daniels told SLAM! Wrestling.

"I am glad that there is somebody in southern California that is doing well in promoting. Wrestling isn't as prevalent on the West Coast as it is out East. I am glad that they are in full swing and definitely hitting their stride and bringing in great talent for some really good shows. Now that I am the X champion I am going to bring it up a notch and see if Alex Shelley can handle it," Daniels said.

"In between doing several takes of promos with the very talented Goldylocks and nearly getting chokeslammed numerous times by Abyss, Chris Daniels was one of the few men I never had a chance to wrestle in TNA and regrettably so," Daniels' opponent Shelley said. "PWG changes that! I look forward to testing myself against The Fallen Angel, a man I've already learned a lot from and respect greatly."

The show will be rounded out by Chris Sabin vs. Chris Hero and will also feature Hook Bomberry, Disco Machine, Excalibur, Phoenix Star, Top Gun Talwar and Zokre.

Matches for the second night will be announced at the end of night one and will feature most of the same talent. Alex Shelley, Bryan Danielson, Samoa Joe and Jamie Gibson will not be appearing however Super Dragon, AJ Styles, Petey Williams will be on both events.

Tickets range from $20 to $30 and two-day packages are available. For all the details on PWG and All Star Weekend, visit prowrestlingguerrilla.com
