Impact: Filling in some X spots
By CHRIS SOKOL - SLAM! Wrestling
As we draw nearer to TNA's next PPV, Destination X, anticipation builds. With a card filled with gimmick matches, Impact turns its attention to filling slots on the card this week, especially with those high-flying X Division dudes. We start the show off with a recap of what happened between Monty Brown and Trytan on last week's Impact. Hopefully we'll get a chance to see Trytan wrestle this week. We go to a clip of Abyss and Jeff Hardy fighting in the catering area earlier on in the afternoon. I personally liked that as they were fighting, two crew members sat there eating.
Match One-Petey Williams, "Showtime" Eric Young, and Bobby Roode w/ "Hotshot" Johnny Devine and Coach Scott D'Amore vs Dutin Rhodes and America's Most Wanted
We come back to Shane Douglas who is standing by with Raven. Raven cuts a promo about hurting Dustin Rhodes and giving him the punishment he should have been given as a child. He tells Rhodes he is going to set him free. Wow, Raven cuts some damn good promos.
Match Two- Chris Sabin vs Cassidy Riley "The Alpha Male" Monty Brown comes out to commentate the next match which is...
Match Three- Buck Quatermain vs Kid Kash w/ Lance Hoyt BG James and Konnan are backstage talking, when The New Age Outlaw walks in and tells James that he has business to discuss with him and only him.
Match Four- "No Gimmicks Needed" Chris Candido w/ The Naturals vs "Primetime" Elix Skipper Next, they take us to a pre-recorded interview with Diamond Dallas Page, in which he talks about his upcoming match with Jarrett, how he's been training and basically the same stuff Kevin Nash said, only it's DDP.
Match Five- "The Fallen Angel" Christopher Daniels, Frankie "The Future" Kazarian, and Michael Shane vs Sonny Siaki, "The Truth" Ron Killings, and "The Phenomenal" AJ Styles "The King Of The Mountain" Jeff Jarrett comes out to put his commentating skills to work for...
Match Six- The New Age Outlaw vs Diamond Dallas Page
Wow, not the greatest Impact, but it served its purpose. It was X Division week apparently, which is not a bad thing, but I am just sick of watching Buck Quatermain and Cassidy Riley job every week. Bring in some more new faces or Impact will get stale! Moving forward, DDP is going through the same phases Kevin Nash did in preparation for his title match. Everything just seems the same, and that won't do anything for ratings. With all that being said, let's hope next week provides us with some new things.
Chris Sokol is from Long Island, NY and can't wait for Trytan to actually compete in a wrestling match. It's a novel idea isn't it? If you agree and find yourself with some free time, email Chris at CJS137@aol.com. |
