Impact: Gunn named an Outlaw, Trytan smokin'
By CHRIS SOKOL - SLAM! Wrestling
Fresh on the heels of a very un-TNA like PPV, we head into TNA Impact, a show that hasn't disappointed in quite some time.
Getting back to the PPV, it didn't get off to a great start, and had it not been for a surprisingly good Heavyweight Title match, along with a nice X Division match, and a decent tag team bout featuring Team Canada and Monty Brown, the PPV would have bombed. No offense to anyone else on the card this past Sunday, but the PPV just didn't click. Anyway, TNA will give it another shot at Destination X, their March PPV. Now it's time for me to "Break it down" and deliver you the TNA Impact Report.
We start with a recap of the PPV, with a very different tone than the one I just gave you, but don't hold it against them.
Following that little recap, we are shown some special video footage of TNA at the Super Bowl on The Best Damn Sports Show Period. We see Jeff Jarrett and Kevin Nash get into a battle of the words before DDP intervenes and receives a guitar shot to the head.
Match One- Michael Shane w/ Frankie "The Future" Kazarian vs Ron "The Truth" Killings w/ 3 Live Kru
Too bad Kazarian left TNA, but you gotta do what you gotta do, I guess. After the 3 Live Kru do their "thing", the match kicks off with Killings gaining the early advantage. Once Killings is sent to the floor, Kazarian goes to work on him, giving Shane the offensive momentum. Killings hits The Hat Rack Crack and continues to fight back. An axe kick to the head gives Killings the win.
Shane Douglas is standing by with "The Fallen Angel" Christopher Daniels. Daniels does not agree with having to earn a shot for the X Division Championship at Destination X, but says he will.
Match Two- The Naturals w/ "No Gimmicks Needed" Chris Candido vs Buck Quartermain and Lex Lovett
The Naturals go to work on Lovett early, choking him in the corner. Lovett is triple teamed by The Naturals and Candido, until Quatermain gets the hot tag. All four men get into the ring and it is a brawl! Lovett gets spun around and hit with The Natural Disaster for the three count.
We go backstage, where Traci Brooks finds Dustin Rhodes and AMW in Dusty's truck. Rhodes gives Traci a contract for a Bull Rope match at Destination X with Raven. Rhodes says that he signed it, and he knows that Raven will too. Abyss then comes and jumps in the truck with Traci, stuffing a paper down her pants. Traci looks at the paper, while we head back for more in-ring action.
Match Three- Phi Delta Slam w/ Trinity vs Mikey Batts and Romeo
Phi Delta Slam just beat on Batts and Romeo the entire match. The match ends with Romeo getting hit with the Tsunami Splash.
Dusty Rhodes comes out, Trinity and Traci by his side, and announces that at Destination X, Abyss and Jeff Hardy will wrestle in a Falls Count Anywhere Match. Rhodes goes on to announce that he will lay a stipulation on Jarrett's match in a few days, but he will announce his opponent who is none other than DDP. DDP comes out and hits the ring. DDP tells Jarrett, that it's time for him to "Feel the bang!" This prompts "The King of the Mountain" to come out and run his mouth on DDP. The two exchange words and a brawl breaks out. The New Age Outlaw, yes they call Billy Gunn The New Age Outlaw, comes out and beats on DDP. Nash then hits the ring and clears house, allowing DDP to hit Jarrett with a Diamond Cutter.
We come back and AJ Styles is at the commentary table with Don West and Mike Tenay, talking about his win at Against All Odds.
Match Four- Shark Boy vs "No Gimmicks Needed" Chris Candido vs Chris Sabin
Sabin and Shark Boy gang up and take Candido out of the ring. Sabin quickly turns on Shark Boy, and it's every man for themselves. Candido slaps a sleeper on Sabin and Shark Boy locks one on Candido, Sabin drags them both down and each one of their jaws crack together. Pretty cool deal right there. The match ends when Sabin takes out Shark Boy, Candido sees the opportunity and covers Shark Boy, putting his feet all over the ropes for the three count.
We go to another recap of the PPV. Again, I would say that it was the worst of the four monthly PPVs. There's always next time though...
Match Five- Lance Hoyt w/ Kid Kash vs "The Alpha Male" Monty Brown
Mike Tenay announces that at Destination X, The New Age Outlaw will take on Kevin Nash in a No Disqualification Match. Brown starts off the match like a house on fire, throwing some heavy blows at Hoyt, knocking him out of the ring. We come back from commercials, and Hoyt is going to town on Brown. Brown uses his great power to fight back, but a Kid Kash distraction causes him to fall prey to a boot to the face. Brown fights out of Hoyt's grip, POOOOOOOUNCEEE! The lights go out and Trytan appears in front of the heel entrance way. He points at Brown as smoke pours out and covers him. When the smoke cleared, he was gone.
Wow, I know he just debuted, but I am getting good vibes from this Trytan character. Bring in some more gimmicks TNA! Anyway, Destination X is looking pretty good as well. The matches thus far spectacular, hopefully I won't be let down. Well fans, thanks for clicking in, I'll catch you next week for another edition of the NWA TNA Impact Recap.
