Hulkster 'twin' to rumble in Winnipeg
By DEAN PRITCHARD - Winnipeg Sun
He's talked the talk, now it's time Gord Livingstone walked the walk. After 15 years turning heads as a Hulk Hogan look-alike, Livingstone is taking his muscles and mullet inside the ring.
"I just hope that too many people don't get turned away at the door," said a nervous Livingstone, who will make his wrestling debut Friday night at the Broadway Neighborhood Centre.
Livingstone, 42, was approached by local wrestling promoter George Sanderson just two weeks ago after Sanderson's daughter reported seeing him lock biceps with the Canadian arm wrestling champion at Tech Voc High School.
"She said 'Dad, if you could see this guy you would swear it was Hulk Hogan.' Hulk Hogan doesn't come around town too often so to see someone who looks like him would be incredible," Sanderson said.
Since meeting Livingstone a week ago, Sanderson arranged an appearance on A Channel's Big Breakfast and is already planning more wrestling appearances for the spring.
The Toronto native says people started mistaking him for the wrestling superstar when he was in his late 20s and he snagged the cover of The Toronto Sun for a Hulk Hogan look-alike contest.
Since then, he's made regular charity appearances at sports events, shopping malls and children's hospitals as "the Hulkster" or "Hulk, Jr."
"There is not a day that I go out of this house that I don't get called the Hulkster," said Livingstone during an interview at his Seven Oaks Avenue home.
"I just love to perform. You feel good. It's a great experience. I will do anything that will put a smile on a kid's face."
After years of lost opportunities and roadblocks by WWE legal beagles, Livingstone is still reeling at his recent good fortune.
"Things are starting to snowball. I'm starting to get nervous," he said.
Livingstone, who will go by the name Hulk Hollywood inside the ring, is hoping his new career will take him "right to the big show" and a meeting with his real-life counterpart.
"My long-term goal is to go to him or he will find out about me, but I want to meet Hulk Hogan personally."
