Impact: Nash gets shot against all odds
By CHRIS SOKOL - SLAM! Wrestling
Impact returns from Orlando, just a little over a week before Against All Odds. What an appropriate title, Nash, against all odds received a shot at the title, despite not doing anything -- wrestling wise -- to deserve it. Other than that title match, which could go either way, this PPV appears to be a nice one. In the meantime, check out NWA TNA Impact! They kick off the show recapping the Abyss/Jeff Hardy feud. Their TLC err.....Full Metal Match should be interesting. Christopher Daniels joins Don West and Mike Tenay, and we're off to the races.... MATCH ONE- Petey Williams w/Scott D'Amore vs Shark Boy
Shark Boy makes his long awaited return, and takes it to Williams in the early goings, even biting the rear end of Petey Williams. Williams fights back, with a boot to the head of Shark Boy. Williams goes for a Canadian Destroyer off the second rope, but in return receives a huracanrana. A near collision with the ref and a Canadian Destroyer later, Shark Boy is down for the count. We go backstage where Dustin Rhodes is talking to Cassidy Riley. Riley thanks Rhodes for having his back, Raven walks in and "apologizes" to Riley for breaking his fingers. Rhodes and Raven get into an argument and as Raven leaves, Rhodes tells Riley to watch out for guys like that. MATCH TWO- Buck Quartermain vs "The Phenomenal" AJ Styles
Styles brings the heavy blows to Quartermain, but a Christopher Daniels distraction allows Quartermain to gain the advantage. Styles hits his springboard forearm, Styles Clash. One-Two-Three. A promo airs for the new guy coming to TNA. This is exactly what TNA needs to do more of; the more new faces, the better. Trinity, Traci and Dusty Rhodes are sitting in Dusty's pickup truck. Dusty seems impressed with their tag teams, and says that their teams will do battle on the Against All Odds Pre-Game show and whoever's team wins, they will be Dusty's secretary. MATCH THREE- David Young vs "The Charasmatic Enigma" Jeff Hardy
Young jump starts the match, attacking Hardy from behind. It is announced that in the Full Metal Match, two envelopes will be hanging above the ring, one with a contract in it for a title shot -- interesting concept. Young continues to go to work on Hardy, after recently coming off of a Barry Horowitz style win/loss record. Hardy fires back, he brings a chair into the ring and hits the Willow in the Whisp. Downward Spiral, Swanton Bomb. We go backstage where 3 Live Kru, David Young, Kazarian and Shane get into a confrontation. Next week, Jeff Hammond will be taking on David Young. Kazarian then tells Young that Hammond was talking smack about his mom. MATCH FOUR- Lex Lovett vs Abyss
Abyss hits the ring and destroys Lovett. Black Hole Slam. We go backstage to Shane Douglas who is with Kevin Nash. Nash is getting a massage while Douglas talks about Nash being in the best shape of his life. Don't worry fans, after this match he'll play the injured gimmick again. Anyway, Jarrett comes in and misses a guitar shot on Nash. Nash stands up and Jarrett backs out of the room. MATCH FIVE- The Naturals vs "The Alpha Male" Monty Brown and Diamond Dallas Page
The Naturals come in from behind and go to work on Brown and DDP. Brown and DDP fight out of it and toss Douglas and Stevens out of the ring. We come back from commercial and DDP is in control of Douglas. Douglas comes back and makes the quick tags with Stevens as they dominate DDP. Stevens applies a headlock on DDP and grounds the former three time WCW Champ. After a ton of double teaming, DDP makes the hot tag to Brown who takes out both of The Naturals. POUNCEEEE! on Stevens, Diamond Cutter on Stevens, its over! We go backstage to Kevin Nash walking down the hallway, he opens a door and we cut away. Jarrett's in trouble!
I must compliment TNA once again, actual matches on Impact has been a plus. Like I said earlier in the report, bring in some more new faces, keep things fresh and you'll be alright. Against All Odds will definately be a worthy PPV. Keep the good stuff coming, your on a roll.
Chris Sokol is from Long Island, NY and feels that if Kevin Nash deserves a title shot, so does he. Bring it on Jarrett! |
