The best Canadian of 2004
The SLAM! Readers and SLAM! Wrestling staff make their year-end picks

Best Canadian Wrestler

Oh Canada, what a year it was. Just about every Canadian on a major roster held a title belt this year, with some distinguishing themselves by having career years. This was not an easy pick for most.

What We Thought

Jason Clevett - Chris Benoit. All the reasons why he was the best wrestler make Benoit the obvious choice. Still, Canadians have been proudly represented in both the indies and in bigger companies. It’s awesome that so many talented Canadians are getting opportunities to show the world what we already know: Canadians totally rule.

Yves Leroux - Chris Benoit. How can you vote for anyone else than Chris Benoit? Edge made a valiant effort, but only in the last third of the year.

Bob Kapur - Chris Benoit. See comments for Best Male Wrestler

Corey David Lacroix - Petey Williams. He was given the chance to show what he can do in the ring and delivered. He is the break-out talent of 2004 with his crisp execution, capped with the finisher of the year, The Canadian Destroyer. The sky's the limit for this great athlete.

Jon Waldman - Chris Benoit. This was another close one in my eyes, as Trish or Chris Jericho could have taken the title; but when it comes right down to it, no Canadian born grappler had a better year than Benoit. The Rabid Wolverine showed that this "vanilla midget" could pop a crowd bigger than most wrestlers simply by going out and wrestling night in and night out. Big props also go out to Christian, who was easily the most improved Canadian wrestler this year.
